Spanish Travel Country Project

Introduction to Spanish

Part I

Overview:

You and your group will be tour guides and will be choosing one country of the 21 we have studied this semester. Your job is to creatively persuade tourists to visit this country!Once you have chosen a country that you are interested in, you will be doing some research on that country. With the information that you have gathered, you will have the choice of creating either your own travel brochure, or a 12 month calendar, or a big class poster for that country.

Content : (you can include this information in both the poster and power point)

Inform your audience on the following facts on your country:

  • Population of the country
  • Geographical features of the country. Show on a map of the country the following information:
  • ocean or oceans that surround the country
  • name of bordering countries
  • 2 main rivers and 2 main mountain(s)
  • 3 main cities including the capitol
  • A picture of the flag or an outline of the country on the cover of the brochure
  • Some historical information about the country (When did it become independent? Is there anything particularly unique about the country’s history?)
  • Cultural information about the country
  • Festival or holiday that is celebrated in that country
  • Typical Food
  • Typical music/
  • Typical dances
  • Art/ or architecture
  • Famous singer, dancer or athlete
  • Information about famous cities and sites within the country (Are there any famous museums, parks, beaches, monuments, ruins, etc. in that country that people might be interested in visiting?)
  • Language/s spoken
  • Typical animal, bird or fish of country. Exotic fruits and flower.

BROCHURE.

Structure:

It may be difficult to visualize what the brochure will look like so I will provide you with the structure of how I would like your brochure to look. You can choose the page length, but it should open and read like a typical 3 fold brochure. *You should try to include some Spanish. I can help you with this.

Cover: The cover should have the name of the country (in big letters), your name (in the bottom corner), a slogan (for example, “Welcome to Paraguay!”), and either the flag or an outline of the country. Example:

This is just a basic example. Have fun with this and make your cover colorful and decorative!

Inside: On the inside cover is where you should provide some basic facts like the population, the capital city, a paragraph of important historical facts, the geography, and climate. This can all be either typed or hand written, but please make it as neat as possible! Example:

The number I provided for the population is not the real population of Chile. Again, this is just an example. Your inside cover does not necessarily need to look like this.

This is a picture of a famous national park in the south of Chile. If you would like, you can do something like this where you provide a picture and a brief description of a famous place in your country.

Resources you may use for the Project:

  • Documentaries and pictures of countries
  • (has online atlases, almanacs, encyclopedias, etc.)
  • (the official National geographic website)
  • Encyclopedias
  • Travel Brochures
  • Travel magazines

Part II (20 points):

Decide upon a persuasive approach to convince your tourists to travel the country of your choice.

  • The power point may include a video.

Each group will have a powerpoint presentation and can also display your poster, brochure or calendar for everyone to see.

Presentations should last between 5 and 10 minutes.

Perhaps we will have visitors.
