GOALS
What do you want your child to accomplish or understand? (related to learning outcomes) / It is expected that Student's name will gain understanding in the following areas of textiles with a Christian world view:
Applying Creative Processes
  • create textile items incorporating the elements and principles of design
  • critique and analyse the role and influence of international designers on the fashion industry
  • experiment with basic processes used to print, texturize, and embellish fabric
  • investigate ways to reduce the environmental impact of clothing and textiles
Career Opportunities
  • analyse career opportunities and prerequisites related to the design, production, and marketing of fashion and textiles
  • Constructing Textile Items
  • construct and repair advanced garment and textile items using construction basics, including - closures - stitching - reducing bulk - stabilizing - fitting - hemming - hand sewing
  • demonstrate an understanding of preconstruction procedures
Factors Affecting Textile Choice and Use
  • analyse the relationship between textile consumerism and global issues
  • investigate historical, political, and cultural influences on fashion
Textile Foundations (How Properties of Textile Fibres Affect Wear and Care)
  • explain and use appropriate textile terminology
  • identify fibre content by using a variety of testing processes
  • justify fabric choice based on suitability for various purposes
  • select and use specialty fabrics for advanced garment projects
Textile Foundations (Safe Use of Tools and Equipment)
  • demonstrate safe use of tools and equipment needed to produce textile items
  • identify and know how to respond appropriately to emergencies, including - cuts - needle injuries - burns - electrical shocks - fires
  • manage time and resources in the classroom
  • select and use appropriate ironing/pressing equipment
  • select and use the appropriate sewing machine or serger and settings as needed
Student's name will also understand the concept of modesty and how that reflects her/his faith. She/he will also share her/his gift of sewing with others, displaying the love of Christ.
LEARNING STRATEGIES/ACTIVITIES

Student's name will research a topic in textiles 10 and present her/his information in a slide show, brochure or other creative manner.
Student's name will demonstrate care of fabrics while she/he does laundry - special washing instruction, hand washables, water temperature, etc.
Student's name will answer textile related questions in from support teacher’s blog.
Student's name will read the textiles blog postsby support teacher and participate in any discussions on the blog.

SCHEDULE/
TIMETABLE
How are you going to divide up your plans over the year so that they will get accomplished? / Linear Students:
Student's name will work on her/his textiles projects 3 hours per week, completing 100 hours in total. Her/his first project is due at the end of November. Second project due December/January. Third project due March. 4th project due May/June.
Semester Students:
Student's name will work on her/his textiles projects 6-7 hours per week, completing 100 hours in total. Her/his first 2 projectsare due at the end of November/March. Last 2 projects due in January/June.
