Working in close partnership with the Learning Director for Mathematics, the postholder is required to share all aspects of the leadership and management of the department and to support in providing strategic and highly effective leadership in the co-ordination of the curriculum.

In line with the Raising Attainment Plan, the Assistant Learning Director will assume specific responsibility for:

1] Ensuring quality Learning and Teaching and supporting Curriculum Development

Support in the planning, development and successful implementation of a coherent and engaging curriculum, sourcing appropriate and challenging resources to support effective Teaching and Learning.

Support in leading the department in the planning, delivery and review of long and medium term plans andSchemes of Learning, in line with the reformed GCSE specifications, in order to maximise learner progress through a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

Create new and high quality teaching materials and resources, including those to support the teaching and learning of specific groups of students in Maths.

Support in the building of a coherent, robust and sustainable model of assessment that will support and prepare students for success in KS4 examinations.

Plan and deliver high quality lessons and secure outstanding outcomes for all students as a result of consistently good and increasingly outstanding teaching within the department.

Analyse and interpret data forensically to modify planning and to boost performance for all groups of learnersand, from this set up effective intervention strategies in order to diminish differences.

Support the Learning Director in the writing of departmental policies, documentation and evaluation of performance.

Support with monitoring and evaluating standards of teaching and the impact of the quality of teaching in Maths.

Advise the Learning Director on the appropriate purchase of and/or development of resources and texts and manage the effective use of resources at for all learners.

Support and contribute to whole school and cross curricular initiatives relating to both key stages.

2] Working positively and supportively with others

Co-ordinate the sharing of teaching and learning strategies across theMathematicsteam, including through leading department planning meetings.

Be a strong role model in the planning and delivery of highly effective lessons, and sequences of lessons.

Bea beacon of outstanding teaching.

Contribute to department or whole school showcasing.

Assume the role of line manager, sharing responsibility with the Learning Director for the Performance Management of colleagues within the department.

3] Contributing to departmental self-evaluation

Insist on high quality in all aspects of: learning and teaching, progress towards challenging targets, provision, behaviour and safety.

Support the Learning Director in all aspects of departmental monitoring,in line with the Quality Assurance Framework, focusing specifically upon:

  • Lesson observation;
  • Scrutiny of students’ work;
  • Analysis of data;
  • Student voice activities;
  • Short, medium and long term planning;
  • Management of behaviour for learning;
  • Contribution to the departmental Raising Attainment Plan.

Support the Learning Director in ensuring that all members of the team are accountable for the progress of their teaching groups, which is at least in line with national expectations, taking a leading role in conducting ‘Progress to Target’ meetings.

4] Enhancing Student Performance

Help to ensure that all learnersare meeting their challenging targets.

Support in the development of strategies to ensure a strong match with English performance in order to ensure the EM match.

Support the department in the regular standardisation of assessment and help to monitor consistency in departmental assessment.

Continue to develop our positive learning culture with students.

Coordinate examinations/assessments. Contribute to the evaluation of results and develop improvement strategies where appropriate.

Track students’ performance in assessments, across all year groups, to ensure accurate predictions and high quality evaluation of strengths and weaknesses.

Liaise with Achievement Directors and Student Support Leads to develop successful interventions and narrow the gaps for all learners.

5] Developingthe Learning Environment

Actively promote high quality displays,in classrooms and corridors, which support teaching and learning, leading by example.

6] Promoting the School and its Community

Contribute to the provision of after school clinics and clubs and other extra-curricular activities/events/visits/trips etc.

Facilitate preparations for Open Evening.

Support the Lead Practitioner in the drive for involvement in national Mathematics competitions and events, with a view to raising the profile of Mathematics across the school and wider community.

7] Safeguarding all learners

Work within the school’s rigorous Safeguarding procedures.
