7. Course Objectives:

Determination of the proportions of elements in compounds based on the structure of matter. Recognising the types of bonds and lattices, derivation of the properties of substances from their structure. Recognising the connection among the elemental steps containing the transport processes too. Recognising the acid-base, redox, complex forming, electrofil, nucleofil types of reactions. Differentiation between the equilibrium and stationary state.

8. Course Outline:

Topics Covered:

8.1. Course Outline (Weekly)

The goal is to summarise and synthesise the chemistry learnt in secondary school. Revising the basic laws leading to the concepts of the chemical element, compound, atom and molecule and to show their reasons hidden in the structure of matter. Bonds and lattices of the most important types of compounds (oxides, hydrides, halogenides, acids, bases, redoxi-active substances, organic compounds), interpreted in terms of the structure of matter and the energy levels. Recalling the elemental steps of the chemical and electrochemical processes, their role in determining of the rate of reaction. Types of reactions classified according to the particle transitions and the types of active particles. Energetic and kinetic approach of equilibrium processes, types of reactions leading to equilibrium.
