COURSE OUTLINE AND DESCRIPTION

1.Content Area

The purpose of this class is to enable students to apply basic job search skills in making career choices. The Job Search class uses resources such as the internet and local newspapers to hunt and find jobs. Content of the course will consist of several job searches that are directly correlated to the student’s trade. The first part of the class will take place in the Career Preparation computer lab. Students will use internet resources to conduct job search. The second half of the class will be completed at the local library. Students will conduct job search from local news papers. This will strengthen their job search skills along with helping them understand Labor Market Information. The course enables learners to develop the knowledge to make informed career decisions leading to viable employment and future job search. Significant points to this class include; job survival skills, worker’s rights and responsibilities, and strategies for succeeding the first week on the job. This course is taught two blocks during the Career Preparation period by the CPP Instructor.

2.Quality Indicators

After completion of this class the students can conduct independent job searches. Students will have a number of job search websites at their disposal. A handout of websites is supplied. The trip to the local one stop during Career Exploration also strengthens student’s understanding of other job seeker services.

3.Course Competencies

Conduct an internet job using various sources to employment (Internet, newspaper)

Become familiar with the one stop and job seeker services.

Locate state and personnel offices in each state.

Inquiring about a job over the telephone

Understanding all the components of a job application

4.Course Completion Requirements:

  1. Students will satisfactorily complete all written assignments
  2. Students will attend class for 2 blocks
  3. Students will participate in all class activities and discussions
