Text Book:Modern Physics, by: Thornton/Rex, 3nd ed.

Topics:Chapters 2 thru 7, and chapters 10,12,13,14,16.

Homework:Homework assignments for each chapter and their due dates are listed on the next page. Homework assignments will not be collected. A day before the due date, the solutions to the assigned problems will be e-mailed to everyone.

Pop Quizzes:Every day, a pop quiz similar to the homework assignments will be given. Only those present on time will have the opportunity to take the quiz. There are no make-ups for any of the quizzes.

Exams:There are three mid-term exams and one final exam. See the schedule of homework assignments for the due dates and the chapters covered for each exam. Your score for each exam will be normalized to the highest score in the class.

Semester Project:You need to choose a topic, do a literature/internet research and write a short report (in electronic format). In addition, you will be presenting your project, in a 5 to 10 minutes time frame, to your classmates during the scheduled days listed on next page. Some of the past projects are listed in:

Each group can have 2 or 3 members.

Grade:Quizzes10 PTS each, 25% of the total grade

Semester project25% of the total grade

Mid-exams150 PTS each, 30% of the total grade

Final exam200 PTS, 20% of the total grade

Each student’s grade will be based on a curve normalized to 100 using approximately the following break-ups:

90 to 100A

80 to 90B

70 to 80C

60 to 70D

0 to 59F
