Come preannunciato nel programma dell’Associazione per l’anno scolastico 2006/2007 proponiamo il seguente corso di formazione:

Destinatari: Insegnanti della scuola secondaria di primo grado

COURSE FOR NON – NATIVE TEACHERS OF ENGLISH

General characteristics of the course:

·  The course is for Scuola Superiore di Primo Grado teachers, with a maximum of 20 participants.

·  Before each session, participants will be asked to respond to a questionnaire or other activity regarding their approach to the topic of the session.

·  Each session will focus on a particular skill or skills, exploring methodology, practical activities, assessment and error correction, personalization and learner autonomy and the Scuola Superiore di Primo Grado context.

·  The sessions will take the form of workshops, with active participation and discussion.

·  Participants will be asked to try out one or more new activities between sessions and share their experiences in the following session, so that we can learn from each other’s experiences.

·  Handouts of the material will be available at each session.

FIRST SESSION

Exploring Writing: Ideas and Activities to help develop Writing Skills

·  Writing as communication

·  What ‘counts’ as a writing activity?

Different kinds of writing, including:

descriptive writing, responsive writing, brief notes,

collaborative writing, friendly letters, creative writing and poetry, etc.

·  Preparing to write: helping your students find their voices

·  Classroom activities

·  Accuracy versus fluency practice in writing

·  Assessment and error correction

·  Group discussion: questions, comments and adapting for your context

·  Assignment: try out one or more new activities or approaches from the session before the next meeting.

SECOND SESSION

date: Monday, 15 January 2007

time: 15.00-17.30

Exploring Oral Communication: Ideas and Activities to help develop Listening and Speaking Skills

·  Looking at skill goals and tasks

·  Preparing to listen, preparing to talk

·  Classroom activities for listening and speaking skills

Sharing information, anecdotes and story-telling,

conversation skills, songs and games

·  Accuracy versus fluency practice

·  Assessment and error correction

·  Learner autonomy and personalization in large classes: fun without chaos!

·  Group discussion: questions, comments and adapting for your context

·  Assignment: try out one or more new activities or approaches from the session before the next meeting.

THIRD SESSION

date: 12 March 2007

time: 15.00-17.30

Exploring Grammar and Use of Language

·  A look at some different approaches for exploring grammar and use of language

·  Tenses, texts, rules and learner autonomy

·  Classroom activities

·  Assessment and error correction

·  Group discussion: questions, comments and adapting for your context

·  Assignment: try out one or more new activities or approaches from the session and share your experience with your colleagues.

Jeaneen McAmis has been teaching English for 14 years and during that time has been a teacher, teacher trainer, academic director and materials developer. She has a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont, USA. She has been an examiner for the Test of Interactive English (TIE) since 2003, and is currently the TIE representative in Italy, providing presentations, workshops and teacher support.

La quota individuale per la partecipazione al corso è di 100 €

Per gli insegnanti le cui scuole non aderiscono all’Associazione, è possibile iscriversi effettuando un versamento di 150 € corrispondenti all’adesione personale annuale all’Associazione e alla quota di un corso di aggiornamento.

Per partecipare al corso è necessario effettuare una pre-iscrizione via e-mail all’indirizzo entro il 6 novembre 2006.

Il corso verrà effettuato al raggiungimento delle 15 iscrizioni. A coloro che hanno effettuato la pre-iscrizione verrà inviata conferma dell’effettuazione del corso con indicazione delle modalità di versamento delle quote di partecipazione.
