COURSE EXPECTATIONS: Spanish 1 - Roberto Avendaño

1.  Required materials must be brought to class every day.

2.  Classroom policies and procedure

A.  Be in your seat and ready to work by the time the bell finishes ringing. You will be counted as tardy if not in your seat at that time. You will be counted as tardy if you are running into the classroom when the bell rings. Three tardies will result

in a detention.

B.  Stay on task at all times. There is to be no side talk or interruptions during

lectures, discussions, etc.

C. Absolutely NO food, water bottles, calculators, and cell phones in the classroom.

D.  Keep your hands, feet, your garbage and all body parts and objects to yourself.

E.  We treat each other with respect and dignity. There is no cursing, rude gestures,

cruel teasing or putdowns.

F.  Spanish is spoken in the classroom as much as possible. Including comments made to friends before class begins!

3.  Homework Policy

A.  Homework must be completed before class begins. Do not work on that night’s assignment during class time unless time is given to you specifically for that

purpose.

B.  Homework must be completed neatly. Always write out complete sentences

unless otherwise directed when the assignment is given.

C.  Homework will usually be corrected in class. Selected assignments may be

collected and graded.

D.  Homework will usually be worth 10 points.

Homework is to be turned in the date it is due for full credit. Only one day is given for late H.W. and it will only be worth half the points (5). Anything turned in after will result in a 0. If absent when work was assigned or graded, write ABSENT at the top of the page. It is YOUR responsibility to turn in any work missing after an absence.

4.  Evaluation/Grades

A.  Since a grade represents the mastery of the material presented, NO EXTRA

CREDIT will be given!

B.  Quarter Grading Scale: Agenda 3%

Written Work 20%

Oral Skills 20%

Tests and Quizzes 57%

Oral skills will include, but not be limited to, the following: pronunciation, willingness to use target language in the classroom and in conversation, use of target language in activities and oral presentations, listening evaluations using tapes and teacher dictation, teacher evaluated participation.

C.  Semester Grading Scale: 40% First/Third Quarter Grade

40% Second/Fourth Quarter Grade

20% Semester Exam Grade

D.  There may be at least one oral presentation required during the year (there may be two). The grade received on the oral presentation will be used as part of the final exam grade for the semester.

E. Seniors! In order to be exempt from the Final Exam (2nd Semester) you must

have an overall grade (3rd and 4th quarter cumulative) of at least a 90%.

5.  Attendance/Absence

A.  Missing more than 2 or 3 days per quarter may jeopardize one’s grade.

B.  Quizzes and tests must be made up, usually on the day returning to school.

C.  If a test or quiz was announced in advance and not too many days were missed,

the student will be expected to take the test or quiz upon return to school.

D. If you are absent, check the web page for this class for any homework.
