The DEADLINE FOR PAYMENT of 2012property taxes is August 31, 2012. Payment can be made in person at the CountyOffice during regular office hours, by mail or you may use the drop box at the CountyOffice. If you plan to make your payment in person, you can avoid a long wait in line by coming in early. Your cheque may be Post Dated to August 31, 2012 regardless of how you make your payment. Online and telephone banking is also available. Payments received after August 31, 2012is subject to a late payment penalty as follows:

8% applied September 1st, 2012to outstanding balance

7% applied December 1st, 2012to outstanding balance

CountyMeetings

County Council: Regular Meetings of the County are held the second Wednesday and fourth Wednesday of each month at 9:00 A.M. in the Council Chambers, AdministrativeBuilding, Foremost.

Agriculture Service Board: Regular Meetings of the Agriculture Service Board are set each January and usually fall on Tuesdays. Sevenmeetings will be held this year on February7th, March6th, May 1st, July3rd, September4th, November6th, and December11th.

Formal submissions must be received no later than one week prior to the meeting date. Meetings are open to the general public. For more information call 403-867-3530.

Agriculture Service Board Services: Weed control advice, information, inspections. Noxious Weed Control along County roads. Specific programs for Restricted Weed control. Other services include Pest Control advice, tree and yard spraying, gopher poison sales, annual grasshopper survey, soil conservation inspections, rabies inspections, and machinery rental. Delivery and assistance for planting trees obtained from PFRA, tree moving service. Portable scale for 4-H calf and livestock owner use. Development:Development in the County requires a Development Permit. Building Permits are also required for buildings, electrical, plumbing and gas installations and may be obtained from an accredited agency. Copies of the Land Use By-Law are available. Education Service:The Forty Mile Community Adult Learning Association provides non-credit learning opportunities for adults as well as providing Adult and Family Literacy Services and Volunteer Resources. Fire and Emergency Services: The County has eight Volunteer Fire Departments located at Aden, Burdett, Bow Island, Pendant d’Oreille, Etzikom, Foremost, Kingslake and Manyberries. GIS Services: The County is pleased to provide limited mapping services to non-profit community organizations at no charge. Other services include sales of ownership maps in a wall format or book format (11x17), and custom maps on a cost recovery basis. These can include a map containing any area within the County, Orthophotos, any non-personal information we have available, corporate logos or pictureswhich you supply. Municipal Enforcement: The County enforces various by-laws and Provincial Laws through the Department of Municipal Enforcement. Some areas covered include road bans, speeding, irrigation water sprinkling on roads, and abatement of nuisance and unsightly premises. Road Maintenance: The following services can be obtained by contacting the County of Forty Mile No. 8 Public Works Shop at 403-867-3940; dust control, road maintenance, road construction, snow plowing, weed mowing along developed road allowances, road signs, snow fencing, and road approaches. There is a minimum charge for some of the services. Safety: Employee and Public Safety Programs have been implemented. Areas covered include WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Rescue and First Aid. Utilities Services: The County of Forty Mile No. 8 provides Water, Sewer, and Garbage Collection Services to most of the Hamlets in the County at varying service levels. For inquiries, connection, or disconnection please call the Main Office at 403-867-3530. For utilities emergencies call Stewart Payne at 403-647-7674. Bulk Water Outlets are also in place at Skiff, Manyberries, and Burdett for $2.00 per cubic meter.
