COUNTY 4-H AWARDS AND TRIPS

A.COUNTYMEDALS AND CERTIFICATES:

  1. County project awards presented at the County 4-H Achievement Banquet are based on work recorded in the 4-H Oklahoma report form or the county medal sheets..
  2. The 4-H Oklahoma report form and story are due in the OSU Extension office by the deadline date. (NO EXCEPTIONS).
  3. 4-H Members must be 9 years old by January 1 of the year qualifying for the medal.
  4. A 4-H member cannot receive the same medal twice
  5. A 4-H member may receive only two (2) county medals each year, but may receive certificates for increased work in any project area each year.
  6. A listing of county medal and certificates sponsored nationally may be found on page 1 of the 4-H project report form.

B.SPECIAL COUNTYAWARDS:

1.County 4-H Hall of Fame Junior 4-H members must submit a state record book and complete county requirements for this award. The winners will be selected according to

their project involvement and the leadership skills they have exhibited during their 4-H years. Winners of this award will have their photograph displayed in the Seminole County Courthouse for one year.

2.Outstanding Senior 4-Her This award will be based on the Oklahoma report form in the permanent record book. Also, leadership and growth in their project area will be reviewed.

C. VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

1. FRIEND OF 4-H

Anyone from an individual community that helps the county 4-H program in any capacity may be nominated. 4-H organizational or club leaders are not eligible. Local clubs should submit a one-page essay about each Friend of 4-H in their community they would like to nominate for this award. Many Friends of 4-H will be recognized by the local clubs, but a maximum of two (2) will be selectedyearly for the Seminole county Friend of 4-H Award. Many resource people help our 4-Hers or clubs with programs throughout the year. This award is presented to short term supporters of the county 4-H program.

2. PARTNER OF 4-H

The 4-H program depends on people throughout the year for financial support, subject matter expertise, and use of facilities. These people are crucial to helping a provide quality programs in the county. The Partner of 4-H Award is given to those who give long term support of the county 4-H program.

3. COUNTYLEADER OF THE YEAR

PURPOSE:

*Draw attention to the importance of volunteer leaders to the county 4-H program

*Provide appropriate recognition for 4-H leaders that are doing an outstanding job in their local community or the county program

*Select a leader to represent SeminoleCounty for the state leader of the year

D.4-H TRIPS OUT OF COUNTY

4-H CITIZENSHIP -- WASHINGTON FOCUS -- WASHINGTON DC

This is a ten-day trip during the summer, traditionally in mid-June to WashingtonDC to attend a citizenship short course at the national 4-H center.

OBJECTIVES: To place emphasis on ...

*The national and international aspects of citizenship

*Becoming effective participants in our democratic government

*Better understanding the Federal government

*Better understanding and appreciation for our American heritage

*Responsibility of the individual to self and others

*Leadership training for action back home

*Provide an opportunity to share ideas and experiences with older youth from across the nation

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

*Candidate must be entering at least their junior year in high school at the time the trip is taken.

*4-Hers must submit a state record book to the OSU Extension Office June to be eligible to apply.

*The individuals chosen will be those who can take responsibility and will help with home, community, and state programs after training has been received. The delegates selected will be required to deposit 50% of the cost of the trip by March 1st. The remaining 50% of the trip will be paid for at a later date.

WESTERN REGION 4-H ROUNDUP DENVERCOLORADO

The Western Region 4-H conference is a four-day trip made by chartered bus. It is held in January in DenverColorado.

OBJECTIVES:

*To offer 4-H delegates an opportunity to participate in a planned educational experience

*To provide an opportunity to work and learn in a cooperative atmosphere

*To honor official 4-H delegates by providing them a new enjoyable experience

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

*Must be at least 14 years old by January 1 of the year making the trip

*Must have completed at least one year of 4-H work and still be in high school at the time of the trip

*Cost: about $250

STATE 4-H CONGRESS OKLAHOMA CITY, OK

State 4-H Congress is a three-day conference held in Oklahoma City, OK in late July

OBJECTIVES:

*To recognize 4-H members for their accomplishments

*To assist 4-H members in developing their leadership abilities

*To help 4-H members learn about the many broad aspects of 4-H

*To help 4-H members learn more about the state capitol city and the resources it offers

*To give 4-H members inspirations and enthusiasm for promoting 4-H

*To help 4-H members improve their understanding of citizenship and governmental responsibilities

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

*Must be 14 years of age by January 1 of the year they are a delegate, and not have graduated from high school

*4-Hers must submit a state record book to the OSU Extension office, or have been a state winner in a previous year to be eligible to apply for this trip

YOUTH FORESTRY CAMP

The youth forestry camp is held in June on a Monday through Saturday morning in BeaversBendState Park.

OBJECTIVES:

*To provide youth the opportunity to have an in-depth look at forestry and related professions as possible career choices

*To help youth develop an appreciation for our forest lands and for contributions they make to society

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Oklahoma youth from 14 years of age to current high school graduates who are sincerely interested in learning more about the out-of-doors

COST: About $50

AWARDS: Merchandise prizes to the best students based on test grades. A special award to the person selected as "Outstanding Camper".

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

This leadership training conference is for outstanding senior 4-H members from each county in the southeast district. It is held each year during the state teachers meeting in October.

Each 4-H member attending will be trained to return to their local county and use the skills gained on the county as well as local level.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

*4-Hers must be 13 years of age or older and must obtain the proper forms from the county office, returning them by September 30.

ALL COUNTY TEEN OFFICERS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THIS CONFERENCE

STATE 4-H ROUNDUP -- OSU CAMPUS -- STILLWATER OK

Pre-registration forms are due in the county office in April

Roundup is a state conference for 4-H members 13 to 19 years of age. It includes special activities and programs, workshops, public speaking contests, and the election and presentation of state and district officers.

OBJECTIVES:

*To provide opportunities for youth to participate in leadership training that will help them develop a strong 4-H program in the community, county, and state

*To involve youth in learning experiences that will afford specific skills and information in areas of interest, as well as in leadership and citizenship

*To provide inspiration for promoting 4-H

*To offer opportunities for youth to make new friends, share experiences, and establish individual goals

*To acquaint youth with the campus and educational services of OklahomaStateUniversity

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Members must be at least 13 years of age by January 1 of the year attending. Potential delegates must attend two (2) county 4-H events to be eligible to attend.

4-H members who meet these requirements must agree to participate in a competitive event or activity at State 4-H Roundup to be eligible to go.

4-H members must attend a county meeting for Roundup orientation or they will not be eligible to travel outside the county.
