Awards Assembly

The annual Hobbs High School Awards Assembly honoring students will take place April 28. Any person or organization having a scholarship or award to present should contact Ethan Ayers at 433-0200. Any senior receiving a scholarship that the counseling office is not aware of should contact Mr. Ayers. Please notify him even if you do not plan to use the scholarship.

Junior Class Honor Graduate Status

Juniors need to see their class counselor, Ashley Gaytan, if they have any questions or concerns regarding their status as honor graduates.

Lunardon Orthodontics Health Profession Scholarship

The Dr. Lunardon Orthodontics Health Profession Scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office. This scholarship is available for students who are going to work in the medical field (doctors, dentists, physical therapist, nurses, etc.) Applications are due to the HHS Counseling Office by April 15.

JTR Scholarship

It is with great pleasure that the National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA) announces the release of the 2015-2016 JTR Scholarship Application and Guidelines. Latino students across New Mexico who are pursuing a college degree in behavioral health are eligible to apply for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. This scholarship is offered to New Mexico students pursuing a college degree in the field of behavioral health to include social work, counseling, therapy, and psychology. The deadline to apply is June 1. Applications are available in the counseling office.

Fees, Fines, Textbooks

HHS students need to pay all fees and library fines as soon as possible. Textbooks should be returned as soon as students finish with them. This is especially important for seniors as no transcripts can be sent or diplomas issued until fees and fines are paid and textbooks are returned. Class fees may be paid in the HHS business office and library fines may be paid in the HHS library.

Hobbs High School Spanish Club

The HHS Spanish Club is proud to offer one non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $500. To be eligible, students must be a Hobbs High School graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA; provide a copy of their most recent transcript; must be of good character as evidenced by at least one letter of recommendation. Applications are available in room 215. Applications are due no later than May 1.

Zia Natural Gas Company Scholarship

Zia believes in supporting the youth in the communities they serve. In supporting youth, they offer the Zia Natural Gas Company Scholarship to graduating seniors. Applications are available in the Counseling Office. Applications are due April 28.

Estacado Federal Credit Union Scholarship

One non-renewable scholarship is available in the amount of $500. This will be subject to confirmation that the requirements of grade point and enrollment have been met. To be eligible, students must be a Hobbs High School graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA; provide a copy of their most recent transcript; must be of good character as evidence by at least one letter of recommendation. Applications are due no later than May 1.

Lea County Farm and Livestock Bureau

Applications for the Lea County Farm and Livestock Bureau Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 15.

Scholarship Opportunities

Numerous scholarships are available for high school seniors. Students who create profiles on Scholarshipexperts.com, CAPPEX.com, and FastWeb.com will have scholarships that they qualify for e-mailed directly to them. If you have not already done so, take the time today to create a profile. Many scholarships are also available from Big Future. Google Big Future today to search for over $6 million worth of scholarships.

Ethan Lee Scholarship

The Ethan Lee Scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office. It will be awarded to a Hobbs High School senior with a minimum 2.9 GPA. Applications must be turned in by May 15.

Marine Corps League Detachment 1185 Scholarship

Scholarship applications for the Marine Corps League Detachment 1185 Scholarship are available in the counseling office.

2015 Student-View Scholarship Program

The 2015 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $10,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: one $4,000 scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships, and eight $500 scholarships. It’s quick and easy to apply. Simply log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winners will be announced in May. Don’t wait. The scholarship deadline is April 22, 2015.

Relay Scholarship

As the Telecommunications Relay and Captioned Telephone service provider for the State of New Mexico, Hamilton Relay acknowledges that opportunities for higher education affect the future of New Mexico’s high school students. We are pleased to once again extend the Hamilton Relay Scholarship opportunity to graduating high school students in New Mexico who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have difficulty speaking to assist in their goals of continuing their education. The scholarship deadline is March 2 and applications must be received or postmarked by this date. The scholarship is in the amount of $500 and the winner will be determined on or before April 30. Applications are available in the counseling office.

Reminders

·  The ACT will be given on June 13. The registration deadline is May 8. To sign up, please visit www.ACTStudent.org

·  The SAT will be given on June 6. The registration deadline is May 22. To sign up, please visit www.collegeboard.com

·  Students who need letters of recommendation should deliver them to the recommender at least 2 weeks before the deadline.

·  Regardless of income, all families should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1 for each academic year because most aid requires it. For more tips and details on the financial aid process visit www.wellsfargo.com/fivesteps.

April tasks for high school seniors

·  Compare financial aid award letters.

·  Make your final school decision and mail deposits, as required.

·  Check with the school you’ve chosen about returning financial aid award letters.

·  Notify the schools you have chosen NOT to attend.

·  Plan for registration, orientation, and housing, and mark your calendar with important dates.

·  Start looking for summer jobs.
