Bill 20-107, the “Charles and hilda Mason’s elder Abuse

Clarification Act of 2013”

Councilmember Tommy Wells, Chairperson of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, will convene a publichearing on Bill-20 107, the “Charles And Hilda Mason’s Elder Abuse Clarification Act of 2013”. Thehearing will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Room 500, of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20004. The revised notice reflects the removal of Bill 20-48, the “Civil Asset Forfeiture Amendment Act of 2013”, which has been rescheduled to Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 120.

Bill 20-107 would establish stricter penalties for elder abuse or failure to report abuse, create more autonomy for elders, increase criminal penalties for elder abuse, establish financial abuse as a form of elder abuse, and prevent a convicted abuser from inheriting from their victims.

The Committee invites the public to testify. Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to testify should contact Tawanna Shuford at 724-7808 or , and furnish their name, address, telephone number, and organizational affiliation, if any, by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Witnesses should bring 15 copies of their testimony. Testimony may be limited to 3 minutes for individuals and 5 minutes for those representing organizations or groups.
