Position Title: Marketing and Communications Officer
Status: Internship: Timeline - September, 2016 to March, 2017 (6 months stipend)

The Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) is a not-for-profit co-operative with a mission to establish and grow co-operatives internationally that build a better world. CCA delivers programs that help communities fight poverty and create more secure lives through community-owned co-ops. To achieve this mission, CCA works closely with Canadian co-operatives and credit unions to channel their knowledge and experience to partner organizations and co-operatives in Africa, Asia, South America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe.

Stima Sacco Society Limited is a savings and credit cooperative that gives its members an opportunity to save as well as affords them credit at a competitive price. They have offices in Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Olkaria, Eldoret and head office in Nairobi, and have a total of 154 employees distributed across the 5 branches. Project
With three years of close relationship experience with CCA, STIMA staffs participated in an exchange program and were hosted in Canada for a period of 3 months, returning with knowledge of Canadian credit union management and operations. The internship will contribute towards STIMA’s objective to create awareness of financial co-operatives and their products.
Activities
Reporting to the Marketing Manager & Corporate Communications Manager and working closely with the Branch Managers, the key responsibilities will be to:
• Analyze and recommend new business growth opportunities;
• Implement marketing, advertising and promotional tasks and carry out marketing, advertising and promotional activities in the Society;
• Ensure consistent brand messaging across TV, print, radio, outdoor, digital and social media marketing channels;
• Provide feedback into product development and service offers; participate in their development and collaboration to create, launch and track performance of product and service offerings in our markets;
• Analyze regular market research in order to develop insights for product development, brand positioning and brand equity growth;
• Carry out market intelligence surveys to accelerate growth in membership and product uptake;
• Execute and integrate online and offline marketing initiatives including mass media, email, print, direct mail, social media, company websites, branch awareness and other marketing initiatives.
Qualifications
The Marketing and Communications Officer must have the following qualifications:
1. Undergraduate degree (or higher) with emphasis in marketing, business or communications
2. Experience with compiling and analyzing marketing data
3. Strong computer skills and strong working knowledge of digital and social media
4. Strong and confident communicator, with survey experience
5. Able to work in team, accepting responsibility for the success of one’s colleagues as well as their own success
6. Takes initiative, set goals and manages time independently
7. Ability to work in cross cultural environment
8. An interest in International Development and Results-based Management concepts
9. Knowledge and experience with co-operatives is an asset
10. Appreciation of the Seven Co-operative Principles is a must.
IYIP Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), an intern must:
1. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally entitled to work in Canada
2. Be a post-secondary graduate
3. Be out of school
4. Be between the ages of 19-30
5. Be unemployed or underemployed
6. Have not previously participated in DFTAD’s IYIP
