Dear ______,

In our Preschool class, we have been reading a funny book called Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. This book is about a boy who is squished by a board while in bed. Stanley is now ½ inch thick. He is able to slide under doors, climb down grates in the road, and even be mailed to California in an envelope.

With this letter, you will find a plain Flat Stanley. We are sending our “Flat Stanley” on vacation to different cities to learn more about the world. I hope that you will send Flat Stanley back to my classroom so I can share him with my friends.

Could you please do the following:

·  Decorate Flat Stanley (based on the climate of where you live shorts/jacket/etc)

·  Send a brief description (2-3 sentences) of why you dressed him as you did based on climate and geographic area (i.e. if you live in New York, Stanley might be wearing a Yankee hat)

·  Also, please take Flat Stanley on an outing that is specific to your area and describe (2-3 sentences) your activity. Hint: PRETEND!!! J

·  Send a personal note to the preschool child who sent you Flat Stanley.

Examples: “Hello Katherine! I love you, Aunt Emily.”

“Hi, Katherine! Hope you are enjoying your first year at Gamaliel Elementary! Can’t wait to see pictures of you and the Easter Bunny. Love, Grandma Evelyn.”

Thank you for allowing Flat Stanley to spend a mini-vacation with you. Could you please send him back to my classroom? I really miss him!

You are welcome to scan and email your finished Flat Stanley and information. You can also include anything extra such as pictures of you, your family, or your pets with Flat Stanley. Also, feel free to visit my website for other ideas of what you can do with Flat Stanley to surprise our classroom. http://www.monroe.kyschools.us/olc/page.aspx?id=28774&s=891

If you happen to misplace this letter, contact the family who sent it to you. There is a link on my website that they can direct you to information.
