Hi,

2:19 AM

Welcome to JustAnswer

2:19 AM

Could you elaborate a little more?

2:19 AM

What is the extension of the icon file?

2:19 AM

How do you zip?

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

2:28 AM

the icon is in : C:\Users\KEVIN\Downloads

2:28 AM

i used windows zip

LogicPro says:

2:29 AM

upload the icon file to and post download link here. I will check it

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

2:29 AM

the icon is called with .ico

LogicPro says:

2:30 AM

upload the icon file to and post download link here. I will check it

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

2:32 AM

LogicPro says:

2:34 AM

Download this zip file iran.zip and save on your computer. You can send this file.

2:34 AM

I have put the icon in it

2:35 AM

You can also create a zip file.

2:35 AM

put the icon on the desktop

2:36 AM

Copy from download folder and place on desktop

2:36 AM

Right click on it and click send to Compressed folder.

2:36 AM

It will create zip file.

2:36 AM

You can use this zip file

2:36 AM

let me know if it helps

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

2:38 AM

not really

2:39 AM

i don't want to send the icon alone

2:40 AM

i want the folder to arrive looking like the icon

2:41 AM

( just to save the recipiant from changing a folder icon themselves

2:41 AM

)

LogicPro says:

2:42 AM

could you elaborate a little more?

2:42 AM

Do you want that defaul folder icon should look like the icon

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

2:42 AM

no

2:42 AM

only one folder

2:43 AM

as a gift

2:43 AM

here is a folder with your flag on it .... i can say

2:43 AM

( hopefully )

LogicPro says:

2:44 AM

ok. Please wait. Let me check it

2:48 AM

let me understand correctly. You want to change the icon of zip file from default icon to iran.ico?

2:48 AM

Am I correct?

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

2:52 AM

i want any kind of windows folder .... just a folder ( possibly with content ) .... that's usable and transportable ... with the icon on it.

2:53 AM

transportable over the net

2:56 AM

maybe it would need to be done with a small application ?

2:57 AM

that runs, places an icon somewhere, then sets up a desktop folder, with the icon on it ?

LogicPro says:

3:01 AM

If you want to change the icon of a folder, There is no need of any application. Create a folder with the desired name. put all the required files in it along with the iran.ico icon. Now right click on the folder, Click on properties, Click on Customize tab, click on change icon browse for the iron.ico with in same folder. Click OK, click apply on previous box and then ok. It will change the icon for this folder.

3:01 AM

Does it helps?

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:02 AM

i will check

3:02 AM

just a minuite ..

3:06 AM

not really

LogicPro says:

3:07 AM

ok

3:07 AM

Please wait

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:07 AM

when this file is zipped to send ... then unzipped .. the resulting file has no icon

LogicPro says:

3:09 AM

It will now have the icon.

3:09 AM

Follow the steps

3:10 AM

  1. Create a folder with desired name

3:10 AM

2. Put all the required files in it along with iran.ico

3:11 AM

3. Download this file desktop.ini and put this file also in the same folder

3:11 AM

4. It will preserve the icon now

3:11 AM

I just tested it

3:11 AM

It is working perfectly

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:12 AM

it's not working

3:12 AM

sure the folder has the icon .. but ..

3:13 AM

i'ts not ready to send over the net

LogicPro says:

3:14 AM

could you elaborate "i'ts not ready to send over the net"?

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:15 AM

i want to send this folder via email or a messenger

LogicPro says:

3:17 AM

You can zip it and send. User will unzip and see the folder having icon iran.ico

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:17 AM

i want to give somebody an already customised folder via email or a messenger

LogicPro says:

3:17 AM

You can zip it and send. User will unzip and see the folder having icon iran.ico

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:19 AM

i tried zipping and unzipping your solution ... but the resulting file bears the default "new folder" icon, not my iran icon

3:19 AM

it's just a plain folder with the icon inside

LogicPro says:

3:22 AM

It is working file here. Idea is to put all the files with icon file and desktop.ini in a folder. Contents of desktop.ini are as follows:

3:22 AM

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconResource=iran.ico,0
[ViewState]
Mode=
Vid=
FolderType=Generic

3:22 AM

Te property IconResource has the name of icon.

3:23 AM

Check the case and exact name

3:23 AM

Windows will read the this ini file and look for the icon in current folder

3:23 AM

It will change the default icon with the icon whose name given in IconResource properties

3:24 AM

I tested it and it is working fine

3:24 AM

it will show the icon if you zip and send the folder.

3:24 AM

Right click on this folder and zip.

3:24 AM

Don't zip the contents of the folder

3:25 AM

as zipping the contents will not zip the folder

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:29 AM

so .. what do i do with the _desktop configuration settings file ?

3:29 AM

put it in the custom folder ?

LogicPro says:

3:31 AM

Yes. put all the files with iran.ico file and desktop.ini in folder to be zipped and send

3:31 AM

Right click on this folder and zip.

Don't zip the contents of the folder

as zipping the contents will not zip the folder and it will lose custom settings

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:37 AM

it's not working

3:39 AM

how when I zip the folder ... will the contents not be zipped ?

LogicPro says:

3:40 AM

I meant don't go inside the folder and zip the contents.

3:40 AM

Zip the folder by selecting it.

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:40 AM

right

3:40 AM

yes , thats what i did

LogicPro says:

3:41 AM

It will zip the folder and contents insidei t with custom setting

3:41 AM

Can you show the code of desktop.ini with the screenshot of folder contents?

3:41 AM

As this is working fine here

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:42 AM

do i have to put the custom folder inside another folder ?

LogicPro says:

3:43 AM

not really. Put it on desktop, Can you show the code of desktop.ini with the screenshot of folder contents?

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:44 AM

show you ?

3:44 AM

?

3:45 AM

i have checked the contents of _desktop.ini, they are the same as mentioned above

LogicPro says:

3:46 AM

It is not _desktop.ini

3:46 AM

It is desktop.ini

3:46 AM

Remove extra underscore

3:46 AM

Also check the exact file name for icon file

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:51 AM

when i try to remove the underscore, desktop.ini already exists and there is no replace option.

3:52 AM

only an option to call it desktop(2)

3:52 AM

^desktop(2).ini

LogicPro says:

3:55 AM

This is standard file. We cannot change the name. delete this entire folder, Create a new folder and follow the steps.

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

3:57 AM

but you said ... remove the underscore

3:58 AM

i can't call the file desktop.ini

3:58 AM

it won't let me

LogicPro says:

3:59 AM

As you cannot call the file desktop.ini, experiment in any other folder. Follow these steps:

4:01 AM

Create a folder with the desired name. put all the required files in it along with the iran.ico icon. Now right click on the folder, Click on properties, Click on Customize tab, click on change icon browse for the iron.ico with in same folder. Click OK, click apply on previous box and then ok. It will change the icon for this folder. now look for desktop.ini file in this folder and edit it. It should have following contents:

4:01 AM

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconResource=iran.ico,0
[ViewState]
Mode=
Vid=
FolderType=Generic

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

4:04 AM

i cannot call the file desktop.ini

LogicPro says:

4:05 AM

Now you don't need to change the name of file. If you customize the folder using following steps, it will be created itself. Read them carefully:

4:06 AM

Create a folder with the desired name. put all the required files in it along with the iran.ico icon. Now right click on the folder, Click on properties, Click on Customize tab, click on change icon browse for the iron.ico with in same folder. Click OK, click apply on previous box and then ok. It will change the icon for this folder. now look for desktop.ini file in this folder and edit it. It should have following contents:

4:31 PM

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconResource=iran.ico,0
[ViewState]
Mode=
Vid=
FolderType=Generic

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

4:07 AM

there is no visible desktop.ini file inside the folder even though it already exists there

LogicPro says:

4:08 AM

It is hidden by default

4:08 AM

  1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.

4:09 AM

It will unhide it.

4:10 AM

Also I am sending this zip file abc.zip

4:10 AM

Unzip it to have a folder abc\abc

4:10 AM

You will see the icon iran, ico

4:10 AM

iran.ico

4:10 AM

It should make sense now

4:14 AM

Isn't it

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

4:17 AM

mmmm

4:19 AM

i changed the settings to show hidden files, but desktop.ini doesn't show in my custom folder

4:20 AM

how did you get desktop.ini inside abc.zip?

4:20 AM

( the new desktop.ini )

LogicPro says:

4:21 AM

You can customize the folder. it will be generated then or you may not be administrator on the computer. I am not sure on that part. You can use the folder inside zip file I sent. Rename it to the name you like and use it.

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

4:28 AM

okay ... but ... i will have to explain to my friend how to extract the file to the desktop, it would be as easy to send her the icon and tell her how to put it on a folder herself. Is there a way for the folder to extract itself?

LogicPro says:

4:29 AM

No need to extract to desktop every time. It was asked to easily find the folder. it will work in any location.

JACUSTOMER-dzi09odd- says:

4:36 AM

okay .... i can click on abc.zip to view the contents.... drag the zipped abc and drop to the desktop, where it shows with my icon.

4:36 AM

i think she can do that

4:38 AM

you have been very patient .... and i am happy with the results

4:38 AM

i want to save this conversation

4:39 AM

do i click save and exit ...or....accept ( to pay you ) first .... please advise
