What is an Entrepreneur?

Learning Goals/Objectives

  • Students will understand the concept of an Entrepreneur.
  • Students will be able to identify some examples of Entrepreneurs.

Overview

  • Students will watch a video cartoon to introduce the concept of an Entrepreneur. After classroom discussion, students will design their own business and give it a name.

Materials

  • Computer
  • SMART Board or Promethean Board
  • You Tube video, “Cha-Ching: Entrepreneur”:
  • White paper
  • Pencil
  • Colors

Time

  • 20 minutes

Activity Sequence

INTRODUCTION/HOOK (7 minutes)

  • The teacher will ask the students if anyone they know has their own business. Then ask students if the business is to sell goods or provide a service. (1 minute)
  • Explainthe term Entrepreneur to students. (1 minute)
  • Show students the You Tube video “Cha-Ching: Entrepreneur”. (3 minutes)
  • Have a class discussion about some of the different examples from the video. The teacher can write key words and ideas on the board for reference during the lesson. (2 minutes)

ACTIVITY (12 minutes, 30 seconds)

  1. Have students brainstorm a business that they are interesting in starting. The teacher can write some ideas on the board or refer back to key ideas from the introduction.(1 minutes)
  2. Distribute a white sheet of paper to the students. (30 seconds)
  3. The teacher will write on the board that the students must draw a picture of the good they will sell or the service they will provide. The students should give their business a name. (1 minute)
    *Depending on the level of the class, they can also write a sentence explaining the business.
  4. Students will complete the activity. (10 minutes)

CLOSURE (30 seconds)

  • Display the business designs that the students created. (30 seconds)

OPTIONAL EXTENSION SUGGESTION/HOME LEARNING

  • Students can present their business design to the class.
