Corporation Tax CT600 v3 Form

Introduction

HMRC have updated the CT600 and supplementary pages. The following changes have taken place:

  • References to outdated legislation have been removed or updated
  • Boxes have been renumbered
  • Supplementary page CT600G Corporate Venturing Schemes has been abolished
  • The short version of the CT600 has been abolished
  • iXBRL tags have been updated to reference a new version of the CT taxonomy

The CT600 v3 form is mandatory for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2015

Working with the new forms

The operation of the software hasn’t changed and in most cases the only difference you will see will be the new form.

Long period of account straddling 1 April 2015

If you have a return covering a long period of account where the second chargeable period begins on or after 1 April 2015, the first chargeable period is submitted using the original version of the form, but because the new form is mandatory for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2015 the second chargeable period must be submitted in the new format. The software will handle this for you, but you must follow the instructions below:

Chargeable period one

If you have submitted the first chargeable period already, you must resubmit that period. This is because HMRC require a single copy of the computations covering the full accounting period and it must be submitted with chargeable period one:

  • Open chargeable period one, click Submit, click Attachments
  • Remove the current set of computations from both chargeable periods
  • Regenerate the computation (this will cover the full accounting period) and attach it

Chargeable period two

Chargeable period two is a ‘stub’ period and must not be submitted with any accounts or computations attached:

  • Open chargeable period two, open page one of the main CT600, click the accounts and computations tab
  • Accounts: ensure neither box is ticked, and set the reason they are not attached to ‘sent with accompanying return’. Computations: ensure neither box is ticked, and set the reason they are not attached to ‘long period of account – computations submitted with accompanying return’. Click Save

Submit both copies of the return as normal.

A return covering a long period of account that does not straddle 1 April 2015 should be submitted as normal, i.e. a single set of accounts covering the full accounting period attached to chargeable period one and a computation attached to each chargeable period.
