Job Title:Preschool Director

Reports To:Executive Pastor

Status:Full-time (Salaried; five-day work week) for the duration of the school year, per the Lakota Schools calendar for vacations and holidays. In addition, evening work will be required for designated events (registration, parent training, meetings, etc.). Six weeks of summer work required, with three five-day weeks prior to the start of school and two five-day weeks after the close of school. The remaining five days to be worked in the summer on a schedule approved by the Executive Pastor.

Position Summary: The Preschool Director isresponsiblefor providing leadership, direction,and oversight for the Cornerstone Christian Preschool under the auspices of Cornerstone United Methodist church (Cornerstone UMC or CUMC.) All plans, activities and actions of the regular, on-going program and special services/eventswill be directed to enhance the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of preschool children and their families. The Director will lead preschool staff members in a highly relational manner with a strong team mentality.Current technology will be used to communicate to internal and external audiences the news, services and value of the preschool as well as to promote Cornerstone UMC. The Director will contribute to the team spirit of the CUMC staff through fellowship, dedication, cooperation, encouragement, and prayer support as together they serve Christ at Cornerstone UMC.

should be an outcome of the annual performance review that will be conducted with the

Executive Pastor and Human Resources team.

Qualifications:

•Strong planning and budget management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, nurture and motivate adults serving on CPP staff. Effective conflict

resolution skills.

  • Must be honest and dependable. Must maintain confidentiality as needed. Must perform all

duties in a timely, accurate and effective manner.

•Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, both with individuals and groups.

•Proficient with current technology and communication tools.

•Must have demonstrated knowledge of the developmental characteristics of young children.

•Must submit to a Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCII) check prior to final

employment, with the check indicating lack of a criminal record.

•Must meet “Administrator Qualifications” regarding education and employment as required by

the Ohio Department of Human Services (ODHS) Day Care Licensing Rule 5101:2-12-25 (copy

attached).

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Leadership:

• Administrate all aspects of Cornerstone Christian Preschool (CCP).

• Maintain compliance with Ohio Department of Human Services Child Day Care Licensing

Agency and the Step Up to Quality Licensing Agency, among other

required and/or desirable agencies. Strive to move beyond functionality and basic compliance

to a level of program quality which will contribute to a positive reputation of CCP among

parents and in the community.

  • Assure compliance with safety codes and requirements, including safety drills, building codes, and others as applicable, to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Coordinate with the church Office Manager regarding use of physical space.
  • Provide and maintain a curriculum which is of highest quality and is consistent with Biblical teachings to address the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of preschool children.
  • Set yearly program goals and emphases consistent with quality preschool curriculum and CUMC mission and vision.
  • Update and maintain preschool documents – policies, staff handbook, parent handbook, registration form, school calendar, staff calendar, etc. – seeking approval as required necessary from the Executive Pastor.
  • Maintain all enrollee files with all required documents.
  • Maintain accurate lists reflecting current enrollment, upcoming year’s enrollment, and waiting lists.
  • Maintain staff files with all required documents. Confirm staff CPR training.
  • Review annually and revise as needed CCP employment agreements for approval by Executive Pastor and Human Resources.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication and positive working relationships with the Executive Pastor, Lead Pastor, other church staff members, and leaders of the Finance, Human Resources and Board of Servant Leaders teams.

PersonnelLeadership:

  • Work cooperatively with the Assistant Director. Delegate duties effectively to this staff member.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, train, and supervise all regular and substitute CCP staff.
  • Work with and support CCP staff in working toward program goals.
  • Observe all CCP staff a minimum of three (3) times per school year and provide written feedback to each staff member in an individual conference setting. Informally walk through CCP classrooms on a regular basis. Conduct annual written performance reviews for all CCP staff in a process including but not limited to information gathered from formal observations and informal walk-throughs as established through the Executive Pastor and Human Resources.
  • Help identify professional development opportunities for the staff, and verify each staff member’s total hours of professional development.
  • Conduct CCP staff meetings as needed for both administrative and inservice purposes.
  • Work cooperatively with the CCP staff and the Executive Pastor to ensure classroom instructional activities that are consistent with Biblical teachings, academic content that promotes mastery of necessary skills to begin Kindergarten, and developmental needs of preschoolers and their families.
  • Coordinate substitute staff as needed.
  • Provide the support and structure necessary to maintain a healthy work environment, including staff team-building events.

Financial Management:

•Prepare and present annually a CCP budget to Executive Pastor and implement upon approval.

•Communicate and report to Finance regarding budget and financial statements, tuition, etc.,

and ensure all necessary financial reports are provided in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with the Finance Office regarding incoming and outgoing monies.

•Inventory, purchase and maintain a constant supply of materials, supplies, and equipment,

allowing staff members to perform at a maximum quality level.

•Ensure safekeeping of all receipts and financial records.

  • Review and approve appropriate expenses for CCP staff.
  • Monitor and approve CCP staff sick/personal leave.
  • Manage the tuition scholarship process, with decisions subject to prior approval by Executive Pastor.

Community and Public Relations:

  • Communicate a variety of information about the preschool to the church, parents, and general public through approved channels, which may include but are not limited to e-mail, church web-site, phone calls, Facebook, various social messaging tools, etc.
  • Consistent with the Mission and Vision of CUMC, help the church reach out to unchurched families.
  • Produce monthly/seasonal newsletters specifically for CCP parents.
  • Seek, receive, and respond effectively to comments, concerns, feedback, and questions from parents and community members.
  • Conduct a minimum of four (4) parent inservices to enable parents to better meet their children’s needs.
  • Conduct school tours for potential families and ensure that other staff and/or volunteers have appropriate training and communication materials to conduct tours as needed.
  • Be responsible for the coordination of all marketing – ads, brochures, web-site, etc.
  • Advertise the Preschool through participation in local community events and groups.
  • Conduct a positive and effective recruitment and registration process for new students/families.

Evaluation and Compensation:

The Preschool Director works directly under the Executive Pastor and receives an annual performance evaluation. Compensation is reviewed annually. Compensation amount will be stated in the employee’s contract.
