GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Environment Services, responsible for performing a wide range of cleaning duties in all areas of the Nursing Home, using specialized housekeeping equipment and chemicals in order to maintain a clean, safe, and aseptic environment for residents, staff, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*

  • Cleans all assigned building areas throughout the Nursing Home in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
  • Operates various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical, in order to remove soils, stains, and other debris from assigned areas.
  • Dustmops, vacuums and mops floors.
  • Washes resident beds, strips sheets, disinfects beds, and wipes down furniture and wheel chairs.
  • Conducts an annual spring cleaning of all rooms in assigned areas, including walls, windows, door casings, vents, etc.
  • Strips and refinishes floors, as needed. Buffs floors on a regular basis.
  • Performs special cleaning and furniture moving, as required.
  • Operates and maintains Departmental equipment in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner.
  • Uses chemicals and supplies according to Department standards to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Empties trash and garbage, using safety procedures to comply with hazardous waste requirements.
  • Cleans equipment after each use.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes and maintains positive community relations.
  • Overtime may be mandated, as necessary, at the discretion of management.
  • Submits to a TB skin test as required, unless exempted by the Employee Health Nurse.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services.
  • Reports any workplace safety concerns to the Director of Environmental Services immediately.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Duties require knowledge of housekeeping service equivalent to completion of a high school diploma and up to one year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate routine information.

Knowledge of basic good housekeeping practices in maintaining building cleanliness and good order.

Knowledge of infection control and standard precautions.

Knowledge of the proper uses and application techniques for cleaning products and equipment.

Ability to perform simple manipulative skills such as sweeping, washing, and emptying trash.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform repetitive tasks.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and position objects utilizing proper body mechanics and techniques.

Exposure to possible infectious and communicable diseases and other biological hazards requiring exercise of appropriate safety and standard precautions.
