Upon graduation, a student with a Master of Public Health in Behavioral and Community Health degree is expected to have mastered the following competencies. A student’s capstone experience – the combination of internship and either applied project or research thesis – is the final opportunity for the student to demonstrate synthesis and integration of knowledge, application of theory to a specific public health problem or issue, and proficiency of the required competencies. Using the following scale, evaluate the student’s level of mastery of each of the program competencies.

Upon graduation, a student with a Master of Public Health in Behavioral and Community Health degree will be able to:
Identify critical stakeholders for the planning, implementation and evaluation of public health programs, policies and interventions.
Define public health systems and structures.
Describe organizational theory and organizational change strategies.
Using theory, assess organizations and strategies that impact health problems facing a specific community.
Describe examples of public health initiatives in communities, medical care systems, state health agencies, the federal government, advocacy groups, and other organizations.
Describe components of administration of community-based public health projects and organizations including leadership, overall mission statement, short- and long-term goals, staffing plans, budgets, strategic planning, and critical stakeholders.
Identify individual, organizational and community concerns, assets, resources and deficits for social and behavioral science interventions.
Describe steps and procedures for the planning, implementation and evaluation of public health programs, policies and interventions.
Apply evidence-based approaches in the development and evaluation of social and behavioral science interventions.
Implement behavioral and community health strategies, interventions and programs.
Conduct evaluation and research related to behavioral and community health.
Administer behavioral and community health strategies, interventions and programs.
Serve as a behavioral and community health resource person.
Communicate and advocate for health and health education.
