Neighbourhood prayer

Lord, we pray for the people in our village. We pray particularly this week for those who live in, work in or visit:

Flaxman Croft, Gardeners Close and Faber Close

We ask that each person may come to know you and that you will bring peace and healing in their lives.

This week all the churches in the Circuit will be praying for

Bishopthorpe Church and for the work of Family Matters York and for other charities supporting families.

Prayer Sheet

A reminder that each week there is a prayer sheet in the entrance lobby and if you feel you need personal prayer this morning please do not leave before having a word with the duty steward.

All are welcome to join these groups. Copies of the booklet are on the table by the notice board and the study notes are available from the church office.

Lent Course - Prayer

This course will be held on Wednesday mornings at St. Giles, 10.30 until 11.30, starting 8 March until 12 April – see poster on the noticeboard. If you would like to learn more about how you could improve your prayer life – or even have one – then come along. It isn’t necessary to book or to come to all the sessions.

Air Ambulance Clothing Collection

Abi White thanks everyone who has so far helped me in raising funds for her volunteering trip to Tanzania this summer. If you are able to donate items to the second-hand clothing collection she is organising for the Great North Air Ambulance, filled bags can be brought to the church on Sunday 9 April or between 9.30 and 10.15 on Tuesday 11 April.

Easter themed coffee morning - Saturday 8 April 10.00-12.00

In the week running up to the coffee morning (from 1 April) the clues for an Easter Egg Hunt will appear in windows around the village and the map to find them (along with an entry form) which will be available on the church website/Facebook and also in paper form at church.

This Hunt will hopefully encourage lots of people to join in the fun and come into the coffee morning where they can enter their Easter egg hunt entries, take part in crafts (egg decorating and creating a flower display), guess the weight game, buy locally made gifts and cards, eat cake, drink tea or coffee and catch up with friends.

We would really appreciate any offers of baking and if you are able and would sign up on the list by the coffee hatch that would really help our planning - thank you.

The planning team - Janet, Debbie, Betty and Jo.

Easter Coffee Morning Egg Hunt – 8 April

We're going to hold an Easter egg hunt to publicise the coffee morning on 8 April and encourage people to come along. If you live in the centre of the village and would be willing to display a poster in your front window or on your door, please speak to Janet White.

We'd also appreciate a few Easter chocolate goodies to use as prizes and Janet will be delighted to receive your donations.

Can you help?

Our Palm Sunday service (9 April) will be led by Fizz and they are asking for donations of pansies in bedding plant form and small gravel “pea”. If you can provide these, please bring them to the church, and speak to Mandy if you have any queries.

Flower Ministry

Have you noticed the wonderful flowers on display each week? They are very much appreciated by those in the village to whom they are given after the service. This is an important part of our ministry and we would like more people to become involved, particularly by donating money to enable our flower arrangers to continue to create these lovely displays. Envelopes for donations are available in the entrance lobby.

Flower arranger for Easter Sunday, 16 April

/ Due to a holiday of the duty flower arranger on Sunday 16 April, we would love to invite someone to step forwards and arrange the flowers for Easter Sunday.
If that is you, please contact Eileen Jones (706766).

On top of this, we have the on-going plea for more flower arrangers (don’t let the title put you off - this can be simply buying the flowers and placing them in a vase) to go on the flower rota, so that the flower ministry can continue and the flowers be provided to those whose names have been placed in the ‘Flower Book’.

Holiday Club 2017 - keep the date!

This year's Holiday Club will run from 31 July - 4 August.

We want to be able to run the 3 strands of holiday club again for pre-schoolers, and both primary school age groups. Please let us know ASAP whether you can help this year.If you've never helped before, why not speak to Janet or Rachel – we'd love lots of new members to join our enthusiastic team. You don't need any special skills and there are lots of different roles that you could do.

News from New Zealand

/ Hello Julia and CMC - We are now about halfway through our NZ visit so thought it time to post a few lines to you all at Copmanthorpe (and Acaster). We are having a lovely time even though the weather has not been as good as previous visits. The kiwis are moaning but we tell them if our summers were as good as this we would be well pleased.

We always have a very friendly welcome to St John’s Methodist Church Nelson and have lots of invitations to afternoon teas, evening meals, picnics in the park and trips to the beach which is very close by. We have cycled about 500 miles so far. As usual l have had a few DIY jobs but nothing major, mostly bike repairs to the grandchildren’s bikes. I am again singing in the Nelson Male Voice Choir and last week did a big joint concert with a choir from OZ (Australia). We have two more concerts before we leave plus an ANZAC remembrance service, l will send a photo of me in the choir uniform. !!!!! We are also called upon to do child minding but that is what grandparents are for. Once a fortnight we attend a country music club where l have chance to play the accordion and l also play a few times at church. We send greetings to CMC from St John’s Nelson.

Love from Joan & Tom
