TITLE: COMMUNITY LIAISON, HOMELESS

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or

2.  Obtained an associate's or higher degree; or

3.  Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment the knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics or the instruction in readiness for these subjects.

4.  Must hold valid Oregon Driver’s license

5.  Must provide own transportation (mileage will be reimbursed) and be willing to drive from school to school.

6.  Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative.

7.  Must be able to work consistently within a set but somewhat flexible schedule.

8.  Demonstrated ability to work positively with staff, students, administration, and the public.

9.  Knowledge of local services and community resources.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent and/or Other Licensed Administrator

JOB GOAL: To assist students and their families to connect with school and community resources in order to fully access education. Will assist building principals in communicating with parents, guardians and students regarding available community resources for those deemed “homeless”.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Makes home visits (when appropriate) to meet with parents and their children about homelessness issues.

2.  Connects families and children with appropriate community resources that will assist them to attend school and access education.

3.  Works with the district Administrator in charge of Homelessness in order to stay current in information, training, legal requirements and data as they relate to homeless students.

4.  Provides education and strategies for school district administration and staff regarding how to best assist those who are homeless.

5.  Assists with transportation issues related to homelessness.

6.  Explains the various educational program options available in the Coos Bay School District and assist students to become enrolled in these programs successfully.

7.  Assists district administration with annually required homeless count.

8.  Assists the school district in locating students who are homeless and in need of services.

9.  Maintains regular attendance in a somewhat flexible schedule in order to preserve continuity.

10.  Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent and/or Principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year will be according to the current schedule.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated periodically in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified personnel.
