FOR

COORDINATOR OF FAMILY SUPPORT WORKERS

TITLE: Coordinator Family Support Workers

PURPOSE

OF POSITION:To provide quality professional support that assists in the development of the family support worker roles. To meet the ongoing needs of the family support workers.

ACCOUNTABILITY:The Coordinator for Family Support Workers will be directly accountable to the Community Development Worker under the Community Development Program.

SALARY:This position is voluntary and has no remuneration package attached.

HOURS:Are flexible dependent on the availability of the Family Support Workers and Coordinator.

KEY OUTCOMES OF FAMILY SUPPORT PROJECT:

1. Profile - To improve family support through community links/support networks and appropriate referrals eg counselling, mediation etc.

2. Employment - To offer skills training, job search skills, resume preparation

3. Education - To provide educational programs and social skills, for example, parenting skills, life skills, conflict resolution, problem solving, decision-making, personal development. To produce sustainable links between the StateSchool and Community Centre and to enhance community relations within the School environment

4. Crime Prevention – To provide family/youth activities to reduce boredom and inappropriate behaviours through the development of a sense of pride in family and local community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide support to the Families Workers who need assistance and guidance.
  • To increase the opportunity for skill development and team building.
  • To give directives when required and to feedback information to the CDW.
  • To increase the capacity for learning and community development.
  • Monitor personal development and empower the support workers to take control of their individual roles and make decisions accordingly.
  • Report on a regular basis to the CDW
  • Provide the families workers with appropriate referral pathways and information, which will empower them to make their own decisions.
  • Conduct supervision where appropriate.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Please respond to each Selection Criteria listed below, citing relevant skills and experience possessed within each criterion.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  1. Possession of tertiary qualifications in Social Work/Social Science or equivalent.
  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with families, particularly in terms of casework, individual and family support, group work and counselling.
  1. Demonstrated understanding of current social and economic issues affecting families, and the ability to identify needs and develop appropriate responses.
  1. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and ability to work within a team environment.
  1. Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively (both interpersonally and in writing) with families, groups and individuals, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  1. Current drivers’ license and use of private vehicle, which meets insurance standards. It is desirable that applicant posses a class G, S endorsement on their driver’s license or willingness to attain same, to allow them to drive the community bus, when necessary.
