Cook (Foundation House)

ORGANISATION RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports to:Registered Manager

Foundation House Management Committee

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To prepare, cook and present mealsto a high quality for residents with complex physical and learning disabilities. Order and store food meeting all Food Standards Agency regulations. To support residents and staff team to plan and prepare healthy and nutritious menus within an agreed budget. To maintain high standards of hygiene and record keeping.

PRIMARY TASKS

  • Plan food preparation to the abilities of residents and/or staff on duty.
  • Work alongside residents, the management committee and Facilitators to write menus which are healthy, nutritious and within budget.
  • Storage and stock rotation is carried out to meet Food Standards Agency regulations
  • Efficient ordering of food supplies within a budget and sourcing high quality and cost effective suppliers.
  • Ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are adhered to in line with current legislation and guidance from Environmental Health and CQCstandards.
  • Maintain records including fridge temperatures, risk assessment, menu alterations and other environmental or inspection requirements. Raising any errors or additional work needed with the registered manager immediately.
  • Support special functions/activities which may be outside normal working hours
  • Communicate and liaise with other staff working with in the establishment.
  • Attend supervision, appraisal or training as appropriate.

  • Promote the College’s Health and Safety at Work policy and procedures and ensure these are implemented effectively within the department.
  • Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be requested by the Registered Manager, and/or Head of National Star (Wales and West).

PERSON SPECIFICATION – COOK

Essential / Desirable
Previous experience / Experience of food preparation
Experience of household budgeting / Experience of cooking in a commercial or industrial setting
Experience of cooking for large numbers of people
Experience of teaching
Education/Knowledge / Reasonable written English
Able to follow written safety instructions
Good knowledge of Nutrition / Basic Food hygiene Certificate
706/1, 706/2 or equivalent
Knowledge of current food related legislation
Understanding of environmental health requirements
Skills / Able to produce high quality, nutritious and attractive food
Ability to involve residentswith physical and learning disabilities in food preparation / Ability to prepare and present texture modified food so to meet the needs of residents with swallowing difficulties
Personality / Good communication skills with staff and residents
Positive approach to work
Motivation / High motivation
Able to work unsupervised
Being receptive to feedback, willing to learn, embracing
continuous improvement
Interested in increasing residents’ knowledge of food and nutrition
