Contributions Needed and Appreciated

Your Association sponsors a scholarship for a student attending Indian Creek High School who lives in Jackson Township (a student who would have attended Morgantown if it still existed). That scholarship is $500.00. In the last few years this scholarship has come from the donations given at our annual reunion. Members of your planning committee have personally paid for the cost of the reunion out of their own pockets (e.g., cost of the facility, food, alumni gifts). During the 2017 Reunion we received only $280.00 in donations. We do not have enough in the treasury to fund the 2018 award to be granted this spring. If you can afford to contribute to the Association, it would be most appreciated. You can mail a contribution to the Morgantown School Association at P.O. Box 291, Morgantown, Indiana 46160. Thanks in advance from a worthwhile student who should not be disappointed.

2018 Reunion

The Annual Reunion will coincide with the Morgantown Memorial Day parade Sunday May 20, 2018. The reunion will be held at the same location but changes have been made in response to your input. The Reunion will start an hour earlier at 3:00 p.m. with time for free-flowing fellowship. That will be followed by a Morgantown School Meal and entertainment. We have a new sound system to use during the meeting and will recognize all classes present followed by a very short business meeting so you can let us know how we did. Please put that date on your calendar and expect to receive a reservation form soon.

Additional Reunion Details

Mike Weaver (an award-winning chef) and Beverly Weaver Rossell have agreed to prepare a truly traditional Morgantown School luncheon for our reunion. The menu is:

Ham Salad sandwiches on white bread (the recipe from the drug store soda shop)
Morgantown School chili (recipe from an archive) and saltines
Morgantown School cinnamon rolls (from a handwritten recipe of Marjorie Cullen's)
Bowls of peanut butter
Whole and chocolate milk

The meal will cost only $5.00 per person but we are asking for $10.00 per person with the additional money going to support our scholarship fund. Now, we do not want anyone to miss out on this memory inspiring meal so if you cannot afford the meal the reservation form will have a box to mark requesting financial support. An Alumni has agreed to pay for the meal of anyone who cannot afford it. No hassle, no embarrassment,

Thanks for the Memories

Jack Rihm (1957) shared a part of history with us all. Jack and Judith Schultz (1957) were engaged during their senior year at MHS. But as life would have it they went separate ways; Jack to the service and Judith married. Years later after Judith’s husband died, they reconnected and married. They had five children, 10 grandkids, and 3 great-grandkids. But now for the rest of the story.

I never knew MHS had a Marching Band, but we did. Jack just donated Judith’s baton and a picture of her leading the band down the main street of town. She was a Majorette for the Marching Band in 1955, 1956 and 1957. These items will be added to the permanent, rotating historical display in Indian Creek High School. Thank you, Jack.

Judith (Schultz) Rihm died in June 2010. The couple had moved to Valdosta, Georgia after founding and running a successful grocery in the local area. If any alumni know Jack or knew Judith you can contact me for his contact info.
