Radiologic Technology

Continued Competency Activity and Assessment Form

Number of Hours Required: In order to renew an active license biennially, a licensee must complete the Continued Competency Activity and Assessment Form, which is provided by the Board and must indicate completion of continuing education hours as follows:

For a licensed radiologic technologist, 24 hours shall be continuing education approved and documented by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Of the 24 hours, at least 12 must be Category A hours as designated by the ARRT.

For a licensed radiologic technologist-limited, 12 hours shall be continuing education that corresponds to the anatomical areas in which the limited licensee practices. Hours shall be approved and documented by the ARRT or by any other entity approved by the board for limited licensees whose scope of practice is podiatry or bone densitometry.

Instructions for Completing the Continued Competency Activity and Assessment Form:

Part A: Activity - List activities, courses, & experiences that you used to develop or maintain the selected knowledge or skill listed in Part B; e.g., conferences, quality improvement teams, consultations, discussions with colleagues, preceptorship, teaching, reading peer reviewed journals and textbooks, and self instructional media.

Date(s) of Activities - List the date(s) that you were engaged in the learning activity.

Part B: Assessment (Optional for License Renewal) - Think about questions or problems encountered in your practice. Describe the knowledge or skills you addressed during the learning activity listed in Part A. Consider ethics, standards of care, patient safety, new medical technology, communication with patients, the changing health care system, and other topics influencing your practice.

# Hours/Type: List the hours actually spent in the learning activity to nearest ½ hour. For a licensed radiologic technologist, the total must be at least 24 hours; for a licensed radiologic technologist-limited, the total must be at least 12 hours.

Types of Activities: List the type of activity from the categories described below:

Category A continuing education activitiesAt least 12 hours required biennially

For radiologic technologists, 12 of the hours must be approved and documented by the ARRT as category A. For radiologic technologists-limited, the 12 hours must be in the anatomical areas in which the licensee practices and approved and documented by the ARRT or some other entity approved by the Board.

Other continuing learning activitiesNo more than 12 hours biennially

Radiologic technologists must acquire a total of 24 hours. The remaining 12 may or may not be category A but must be approved by the AART.

Part C: Outcome (Optional for License Renewal) - Indicate whether you will: a) make a change in your practice, b) not make a change in your practice, and/or c) need additional information on this topic.

Maintenance and audit of records: The Continued Competency Activity and Assessment Form must be used for recording continuing education. The practitioner is required to retain in his or her records the completed form with all supporting documentation for a period of four years following the renewal of an active license.

The Board will periodically conduct a random audit of one to two percent of its active licensees to determine compliance. The practitioners selected for the audit must provide the completed Continued Competency Activity and assessment Form and any supporting documentation within 30 days of receiving notification of the audit.

CONTINUED COMPETENCY ACTIVITY AND ASSESSMENT FORM: SUMMARY AND VERIFICATION

This page should be completed at the end of your two-year renewal cycle and inserted as the final page of your Continued Competency Activity and Assessment Form.

Record at least 24 hours of continuing education if you are a licensed radiologic technologist and 12 hours if you are a licensed radiologic technologist-limited that you completed during the preceding two-year period. For radiologic technologists, the recorded hours should indicate 12 hours of Category A activities approved for credit by the ARRT. The other 12 hours may be educational activities you consider to be beneficial to your career development that are approved by the AART but may or may not be Category A. All hours may be obtained in Category A activities or courses. The Continued Competency Activity and Assessment Form and all documentation should be maintained in your records for four years.
