Twilight Park Artists Held 64th Annual Art Exhibition August 13 and August 14, 2011

Haines Falls, NY OnAugust 13th and 14th the 64rd Annual Art Exhibition sponsored by Twilight Park Artists was open to the public. The Exhibition featured over 222works by one hundred artists, sculptures, and photographers in addition to children’s art from the Mountain Top, and surrounding areas.

As in most recent shows, the Chairman, Gracia Dayton and immediate past president of the New England Watercolor Society,hosted a special guided tour of the show quoting statements made about the pieces receiving awards by the shows judges.

Judges for the shows prizes for this year’s show were;

  • Rachel Seligman, Associate Curator of the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.
  • Susan Wides a photographer whose work is held in many public collections. A survey of over a decade of her work is on view at the Hudson River Museum through September 2011.

The judges presented blue ribbons for the Judges Choice; red ribbons for an Award of Excellence; green ribbons for Merit Awards and white ribbons for Honorable Mention and one gold ribbon for Best in Show.(Award winners are listed on the attached page noting their home-town as well).

The opening reception on August 13that the Twilight Park Clubhouse was attended by more than three hundred and fifty people.

On Sunday afternoon August 14th at 3:00pm Jessica Gibbons of Elka Park and New York City. Discussed the inspirations for her work in batik, planning a batik as well as demonstrated some of the techniques of creating a piece; building up layer of wax and dye to create the finished work. Jessica learned batik in Thailand where she lived for two years and she has been studying and doing the art form off and on for nearly 37 years..

The 64th Twilight Art Show was sponsored by Twilight Park Artists and residents of Twilight Park, a community established “on the mountain top” in Haines Falls, NY in 1888. The show was co-chaired by Gracia and Bruce Dayton. Members of the art committee included Ann Collins, Bruce Dayton, Hendy Dayton, Susan Ferris, Mary Gaillard,Sandra Gooder, Mimi Haik, Rachel Roll, Libby Talmadge, Rena Tarnowski, Ed Shuttleworth, Catherine Tangey, Sara Dahr and Heather Wilson.
