Consultant Physical Preparation Coach – Contract for Services

Scottish Gymnastics are seeking to engage with a physical preparation expert to support gymnasts and coaches in our Men’s Artistic and Women’s Artistic Performance Programmes in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Attracting this level of expertise will help raise performance standards in the sport over the next 18 months as well as strengthen the development pathways to ensure a strong sporting legacy beyond the Gold Coast.

This position is a contract for service which will deliver interventions and support to our performance programmes and individuals selected. In the role they will work closely with the National Technical Advisors, Performance Manager, other support staff and the personal coaches.

Job Title: Physical Preparation Coach

Fee Rate: Circa. £200 per day includes all expenses (UK delivery)

Circa. £200 per day + travel (oversees delivery – accommodation provided)

Sessional 1:1 intervention rate: to be negotiated

Hours of Work: Such hours as necessary to carry out your duties as agreed with SG Performance Manager. This will include working outside normal office hours at evenings and weekends and on Public Holidays. For a detailed outline of camps for 2017 – please see Appendix.1

Location: Camps will be delivered within Scotland, predominantly Inverclyde National Sports Centre (Largs), Dick McTaggart Centre (Dundee) and Bellahouston Leisure Centre (Glasgow). There will be some other UK and oversees camps as outlined in Appendix.1.

Accountable to: Head of Performance – Scottish Gymnastics

Main Areas of Responsibility

·  Provide leadership for the delivery and development of strength and conditioning services

·  Deliver physical preparation support to identified gymnasts in the MAG and WAG National Performance Programme at training camps in the UK and oversees

·  Provide educational support to the personal coaches in relation to the gymnasts they are linked to

·  Support the physical testing, assessment and monitoring of identified gymnasts in the MAG and WAG National Performance Programme

·  Capture, analyse and prepare data relating to gymnasts using a variety of methods including video and statistical analysis

·  Provide individualised support to gymnasts and their personal coaches, on S&C programme design and monitoring as agreed with the Head of Performance and Performance Manager

·  Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the services to athletes and coaches

·  Work with the National Technical Advisors and Performance Manager to create a World Class high performance training environment and ensure the S&C and sports science support effectively meets its commitments to athletes, coaches and Scottish Gymnastics

·  In partnership with the identified physiotherapist, work with personal coaches to construct prehabilitation and rehabilitation programmes for identified gymnasts in the MAG and WAG National Performance Programme and liaise with the Performance Manager to monitor adherence

·  Attend, contribute to, and /or provide regular reports at appropriate meetings associated with the programme and support

The person should have:

·  A qualification at degree level (or equivalent) in sports science or related area specialising in the area of physical preparation of performance athletes

·  UK Strength and Conditioning Association ASCC

·  Extensive demonstrable experience in the provision of strength and conditioning support to athletes and coaches to improve performance. This experience should include extensive work with national teams and their athletes

·  Demonstrated ability to analyse and monitor a range of sports in relation to their strength and conditioning needs. To develop, implement and evaluate strength and conditioning programmes.

·  An understanding of the needs of elite athletes and coaches in a high performance environment

·  Knowledge and experience of working with young developing athletes

·  Proven ability to construct individualised training schedules specific to the needs of gymnasts across disciplines
