Town Scavenger Hunt to Replace Christmas Decorating Contest

The Economic Development Commission’s Christmas Decorating contest has been cancelled because of current economic conditions and also for lack of participation. Instead they are holding a scavenger hunt of Boonsboro landmarks.

Instructions:

Þ The contest runs from October 1st – 15th.

Þ Color photo sheets of the 14 landmarks may be picked up at the following locations: Town Hall, Boonsboro Library, Crawford’s, Icing Bakery, Subway, Turn the Page and Vesta.

Þ Only Town residents are eligible to enter.

Þ The sheets are to be returned to Town Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 15th.

Þ A drawing will be held of persons correctly identifying all of the landmarks. Gift certificates from local businesses will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners.

Yard Debris

The town will continue to pick up yard debris every Monday through the month of November (weather permitting). Remember paper bags not plastic bags must be used for grass, leaves and garden debris. Set them on the curb. Stones, sod, flower pots or other trash can not be mixed in the bags. You may continue to take your own debris to the town’s yard debris site at 6927 Monroe Rd. through the end of November. To access this location you need to obtain a free permit from town hall.

Boonsboro Police Department Reminders

The street sweeper comes through the Town on the third Monday of the odd numbered months. Parking is restricted on Main and Potomac Streets during those times. Please make sure to move your vehicle so as not to get a parking fine.

Businesses are not allowed to block sidewalks with signs or displays.

All property owners, tenants and/or their guests are reminded that blocking a public sidewalk with a vehicle is a direct violation of Maryland State Law and will result in a ticket.

Bicyclists must obey all traffic signals and signs.

Speed Limit Reminder: The speed limits on all of the streets in Boonsboro are 25 miles per hour except for Main Street and Maple Avenue where the limit is 30 miles per hour. Our officers will be on the lookout for speeders.

Saving Our Water Supply

Water is a commodity we all too often take for granted. With the heat and lack of rain of this past summer, our water table is greatly depleted. Saving water isn't as difficult as you might think, and you can do it every day, a little at a time. Fixing a leaky faucet, filling the sink instead of letting the water run while you shave or do the dishes, running the washer only when you have a full load of clothes, watering your lawn at night. These are all simple ways to conserve water around your home. Everyone can do something to help conserve water, and together we can make a difference. There are a number of ways to save water, and they all start with you.
