About AREDP/RETURNEES/MRRD:

AREDP is a national government-led multi-donor funded program that jump-starts and facilitates private sector growth in rural Afghanistan. The program strengthens the private sector through integrated, value chain, top to bottom knowledge-based interventions, bottom to top community enterprise development and by addressing credit and capital needs at all levels and in Nangarhar, Parwan, Bamyan, Herat, Balkh and Kandahar. The key principles of AREDP includes supporting market orientation and linkages, sustainable businesses, improving coordination, building partnerships, facilitating client decisions, sharing best practices and vertical integration. AREDP is focusing on two components: Community-based Enterprise Development that provides knowledge-based and financial services to community-based rural enterprises; and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development which provides business advisory and financial services to rural SMEs. Under these two components AREDP undertakes Community Mobilization, Community-based Enterprise Development, Access to Finance, Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Business Development Support for SMEs, Gender Mainstreaming:, Environmental and Social Safeguards. During the year of experience AREDP experienced working with multi dimension and multicultural populations in the rural areas.

To address sustainable economic and livelihood opportunities and needs of Returnees, AREDP pilot returnee’s enterprises development project, which support 5000 families in different provinces. The project will be more focused in strengthening entrepreneurial competencies and qualities of the selected beneficiaries in carpet value chain.

Job Summary

The purpose of this assignment is to equip value chain actors and producers with technical skills of carpet design through developing capacity of the staff and beneficiaries by carrying out training for trainers, entrepreneurs and SMEs in carpet value chain, in the target provinces of Kabul, Kandahar, Laghaman, Nangarha,Parwan,Balkh,Baghlan and Herat. The training material should be developed and should provide information on the topics of Carpet value chain including carpet design and mapping, and to make it as final product for the market. AREDP would like to select professional consultants who will work for 6 months to complete this assignment.

Job Description:

Specific objectives of the assignment

Develop training materials on all activities for carpet design and mapping in the carpet value chain. Including but not limited to Manual, modules, templates, formats, handouts, etc.)
Assess training material, its feasibility, market connectivity and applicability with relevant carpet value chain institutions and actors including but limited to MoCI, ACEG, ACCI, MAIL, MoRR and all other carpet relevant SMEs.
Selection trainers among beneficiaries and community.
Introduce new methods, technologies and materials for carpet design and mapping.
Conduct training of trainers within beneficiaries on carpet design and carpet map preparation etc.
Introduce new methods, technologies, materials, tools for carpet design and carpet map which makes the carpet perfectly competitive to the other carpets in the market.
Introduce carpet new required design and map preparation in close coordination with institutes and SME’s.
Have the knowledge of making different colors in design demanded by the national and international market.
Attend exhibitions, tradeshows and other trade / design related events and provide technical advice for making the initiatives more attractive.
Provide technical assistance and entrepreneurial skills and competencies to selected MSMEs and assist program to identify potential existing enterprises/business in design value chain.
Other duties as assigned by the Program Management of AREDP.

Fluency in written and spoken Dari/Pashto
Experience in enterprise and market development and management, curriculum development, capacity building, system set-ups follow-up, report, communication, monitoring and administrative management will be an advantage.

Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor degree with 5 years’ experience in the related field on carpet design and mapping activities within carpet sector and understanding of enterprise development organizations in Afghanistan - experience and knowledge of: i) value chain management ii) business management, growth and profitability; iii) entrepreneurial skills and competencies; and ability to represent an organization to external stakeholders - demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given – extremely high level of discretion;

Planning & Organizing – Ability to plan own work and manage time and conflicting priorities,

Management –Ability to manage beneficiaries and contribute to the skills and capacity building;
Communications - Good communication (spoken and written) skills, including ability to explain and present program support services-related information/requirements and prepare written documents/communications in a clear, concise style;

Preferred with technology awareness such as computer skills using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet;
Teamwork - Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with beneficiaries in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity

Abilities

Knowledge of carpet sector market and enterprise development, in particular of carpet value chain approaches and demonstrated relevant practical experience in working with carpet MSMEs is must.
Experience in developing the modules and conducting the trainings and capacity building of beneficiaries.

Frequent travels to provinces

Ability to build and sustain effective work relationships with a diverse range of beneficiaries and peers to achieve common goals; Ability to multi-task, be flexible, and effectively lead a team in a high pressure working environment;
Willingness and ability to travel to the provinces.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the RED Unit Manager and where required seek guidance from Executive Director and Deputy Director of Program Operation of AREDP.
