Position Purpose

Consultants will be required to develop a wide range of knowledge, skill and expertise within the area of employment law

In addition to developing their professional expertise, Consultants will be required to develop project management and presentation skills. The Consultant role is a broad range, and at higher levels within the range, more experienced Consultants will begin to “specialize”.

Consultants will be expected to maintain and/or grow client groups through regular business development visits and provision of a quality service. This will see their personal profiles grow over time. They are expected to play an active role in all corporate marketing activities, and to develop existing revenue streams.

Consultants will assist Directors and Associate Directors with managing client relationships, product development, and knowledge management.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Advice

•Understand a wide range of employment law issues and assist in the provision of complex analysis of issues to a matter. Eg:

•Contest hearing

•Conciliation

•Draft Enterprise Bargaining Agreements, Contracts, Policies and Procedures

•Prepare detailed written advice and reports on complex issues

•Draft complex documents and reports

•Assist in the negotiations of Enterprise Bargaining Agreements.

•Prepare and undertake presentations and present training programs

Client Management

•Principal contact for clients total billings as set by the Board

•Responsible for client files

•Maintain good client relationships

•Operate independently within scope of authority

Business Administration

•Follow Quality Manual and provide suggestions for improvements

•Follow and contribute to Knowledge Management procedures

•Contribute to product development and maintenance under supervision, eg:

•Website development and maintenance

•MODERN AWARD Wage sheet maintenance

•Precedent development and maintenance

•Preparing presentations and training programs under supervision

•Development and presentation of training material

Business Development

•Maintain and develop client base

•Identify opportunities for new business from existing clients

•Develop network of contacts

•Prepare and deliver presentations for clients and prospective clients

•Build relationships with existing clients

•Prepare newsletter articles

•Accompany Consultants to new business meetings

•Cross sell IR/HR/OD

•Convert Modern Award clients to consultancy clients

Professional Development

•Implement agreed professional development plan

•Undertake significant on the job training

•Attend internal training sessions

•Undertake continuing professional development, eg:

•Undertake Livingstones Australia training courses

•Complete Livingstones Australia Graduate Training Program

•Accompany Consultants to client meetings

Reporting Relationships

A consultant will report to their Team Leader/s, and have a collegiate relationship with other team members.

Qualifications

Degree or relevant experience

Experience

Two – three year graduate consultant experience or other relevant experience in a commercial environment.

Selection Criteria

Essential

•Extensive knowledge of, and/or the ability to rapidly gain knowledge of industrial relations/employee relations legislation, policies, practices, issues application in both the Queensland and Federal jurisdictions

•Demonstrated ability to provide services to a diverse customer focused environment, and to deal with an extensive range of industries

•Demonstrated capacity to participate as an active team member

•Highly developed analytical, conceptual, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written skills

•Demonstrated capacity to work within a commercial or consulting environment and be self-generating in terms of work and operate within time and budget constraints to provide best imaginable service to clients.

•Demonstrated capacity for self management, participative decision making, operate in an ethical framework and display the ability to be flexible and accept change

•Well developed computer skills which includes the ability to understand word processors, spreadsheet analysis, preparation and presentation of internet research
