Constitution for William & Mary Badminton Club

  1. Name

This organization should be known as the William & Mary Badminton Club.

  1. Purpose

William & Mary Badminton Club aims to provide a relaxing environment to enhance the badminton skills of those who are either a current W&M student or badminton lovers from the Williamsburg community. The club is and will remain open to players of all levels and of all ages. Home tournaments are open only to dues-paying members, and away events are available to qualified players.

  1. Membership

All players are required to sign the club waiver form either online or in hard copy. Infrequent players are encouraged but not required to pay club dues, but in order to be considered as an active club member and to be able to run for executive positions or enter any tournament, one needs to give payment in either cash or check to the club treasure.

  1. Officers

The executive board of W&M Badminton Club consists of one president, one vice-president, one treasurer, one secretary, and one travel representative. One’s responsibilities and duties are described as (but not limited to) below.

  1. The president will coordinate with all the executives and the Campus Recreation Center to plan for the club, head meetings, prepare for home and away events.
  2. The vice president will assist the president to better the performance of the club and maintain connections with badminton organizations around Williamsburg area. The vice president will assume the president’s responsibilities in the president’s absence.
  3. The treasurer will collect dues and maintain the finance of the club.
  4. The secretary will send out weekly emails for updates on practice time and/or upcoming events. The secretary is responsible for administrating the listserv and keeping track of paperwork.
  5. The travel representative will meet up with the Campus Recreation Center in case of traveling to away events and is in charge of monitoring invoices and receipts of badminton-related trips.
  1. Elections

Elections should take place in the spring semester of every academic year, and any active member is eligible for running for any positions. All candidates should submit a copy of their proposals to the president, which will be send out to the entire W&M Badminton Club. Only active members have the rights to vote through electronic ballots, and one person has one vote on each position.

  1. Dues

Dues are encouraged but not required of infrequent players, who make an appearance at practices less often than three times a month. However, only dues-paying members are considered active. The amount of dues may vary from year to year based on the events planned for the club. Dues can be paid by semester or academic year depending on the study plan of the individual.

  1. Amendments

Any active member is capable of submitting proposals to the executive board, which will be distributed to all members after approval of at least three officers of the club. Active members are able to vote, and amendments pass only under the approval of two-third of the club members.
