OVERVIEW
The firefighterIcourse trainingand educationrequirements areto identifyand recognize emergencyservice personnelwhoseaccomplishments intrainingand education meetorexceed nationallyrecognized standards. The NFPAstandardsforFire ServiceProfessionalQualificationssetforththe minimumrequirements foranindividual ata particularlevelofprogression.Anindividualcertifiedatone ofthe Fire ServiceProfessionallevels willhave demonstratedcompetencyin the knowledge andpractical skills requiredto performata particularlevel.Theservicethatcan beofferedto thecitizens, visitors,and communitiesofthe state ofOhio willbe enhanced bythe professionalcompetencyattainedthrough this certificationprocess.
FIREFIGHTERI COURSE
In accordance with Ohio Revised Code (R.C.)4765, theExecutive Directorfor the StateBoard ofEmergencyMedical, Fire,and Transportation Services, with advice andcounselofthe Firefighterand FireSafety InspectorTrainingCommittee, is responsiblefor the implementationoffiretrainingand certifications developedin accordance with and consistenttoestablished standards.The Ohio DepartmentofPublic Safety, Division ofEmergencyMedical Servicesisthecertifyingagencywithin the state ofOhio, withadministration anddeliveryof firetraining programs providedthrough charteredfiretrainingprograms across the state ofOhio.
TheOhio Fire Chartershallensure the FirefighterICoursemeets the followingrequirements:
  1. Consistsofaminimumofone hundredthirty-six (136) hoursoftraining, whichmeetsall"NFPA1001" objectives;
  2. Completes anemergencyvehicle operatorcoursewhich consistsofa minimumsixteenhours,is approved bythechartered program,and meets"NFPA1002"and "NFPA1451” objectives;
  3. Completesa minimumfour-hour"Courage to beSafe:SixteenLife Safety InitiativesCourse."

Thetrainingrequirements shallcommence andend within aconsecutive twelve-month period.
Astudentwhohassuccessfullycompleted the FirefighterIcourse andthecertification examinations willbe eligibleforcertification asa FirefighterIin accordance withsection 4765.55 ofthe R.C.There shallbeno application fee requiredfora FirefighterIcertificate.
