WildeCamp Educator (Wilds)

This position will begin on 5/30/2016 to 8/7/2016.

WildeCamp Educators are counselors for the WildeCamp program. WildeCamp is a residential camp experience for children ages 8-18. Counselors spend week long periods living at WildeCamp with the campers. During these week long periods, the Educators are responsible for the safety and well-being of their campers. They will teach educational lessons, participate in outdoor activities (swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking, etc.) and be responsible for creating fun and memorable opportunities for EVERY child. When Educators are not living at camp, affordable housing is available on the Wilds property. During these times the Educators serve as support staff for the counselors who are staying with the campers. They assist with camp activities, organize meals and help to maintain the camp.

Duties:

  • Teach education programs to people of all ages.
  • Create fun and memorable opportunities for EVERY program participant.
  • Attend training dates (5/30/2016-6/3/2016).
  • Drive school bus on Wilds’ property (will train as needed).
  • Stay overnight at Wilds with campers for week long periods.
  • Make safety a priority and maintain health records for campers.
  • Supervise outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and swimming.
  • Clean and prepare Education Camp for campers. This includes daily maintenance tasks such as cleaning the shower house/restrooms, sweeping yurts and maintaining the kitchen/dining area.
  • Maintain hiking trails and outdoor spaces at Education Camp.
  • Represent the Wilds at promotional events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of college-level coursework completed in related field (education, science, etc.); B.S. or B.A. in related field preferred
  • Experience with school age children required.
  • Comfortable in and on the water, able to hike long distances, and willing to supervise and participate in outdoor recreational activities. Lifeguard certification preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required. All staff will be required to spend week long periods living at the Wilds.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
  • Possession of a valid Ohio motor vehicles operator’s license and a good driving record required. Must be willing to be trained to drive school bus while on Wilds’ property.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in sometimes stressful situations required.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required (training will be offered).
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
