Course Description: This course is divided into three parts:Math Skills for Success, English Skills for Success, and Everyday Skills for Success. In this computer lab course, you will renew essential skills in mathematics and English grammar,whilestrengthening the everyday skills of reading comprehension, active listening, note taking, and test taking.

When you master the math, English, and everyday objectives described in this Course Navigation Guide, you can explore topics such as time and money management, college financial aid tips, multiple intelligences, learning styles, personality types, memory techniques, and much more.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of the course, you should be able to:

  1. Simplify and evaluate whole number expressions with and without exponents by using correct order of operations;
  2. Solve problems involving fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, ratios, proportions, and percents in mathematical and real world contexts;
  3. Solve applied measurement problems using customary and/or metric units;
  4. Perform operations on signed numbers to simplify variable expressions and solve simple equations;
  5. Apply grammar rules and correct usage, including but not limited to capitalization, apostrophes, quotation marks, prepositional phrases, verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, fragments, run-on sentences, faulty parallel structure, and misplaced modifiers;
  6. Apply strategies for improving reading comprehension, active listening, note taking, and test taking.

  1. You will receive a student access code to MyMathLab and a Pearson Education hand-out that explains how to register online and login to MyMathLab.
  2. After registering and logging in to MyMathLab, you should be on the screen titled CourseCompass. In the center top box, click on Before you begin working - Take an Online Tour !

  1. You should now be on the screen titled Announcements. If you are using a computer in the campus computer lab, your computer probably does not need the MyMathLab Installation Wizard, so simply click onHow to Enter Answers Using the MathXL Player.
  2. Click on NEXT at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Listen, watch, and learn!
  4. When you complete the tour, click on QUIT on the bottom right of your screen. From this new location, click on at the bottom right of thescreen.You will recognize this screen. Click on Math Skills for Success in the top left corner.

  1. Now that you know how to enter answers on MyMathLab, you will take an online Pre-test to compare against the Post-test you will take at the end of the course. At the end of the Pre-test, your results will be available to you online. From the buttons on the far left of the screen, click on TAKE A TEST .
  2. On this new screen, click on Math Skills Pre-Test. You may use pencil and scratch paper.

  3. After completing the Math Skills Pre-test, you can view your test results by following the instructions on the screen and then clicking on DONE .
  4. You have completed your first MyMathLab session. Use the BACK button to end your session in MyMathLab, but be sure to remember your login name and password.

  1. Use the web address Login to MyMathLab with your login name and password.Many campuses may already have the software loaded on the system, in this case locate the icon for this course and proceed accordingly.
