Confronting and Conquering the Spirit of Fear

Author: Pastor Sandy Banks – 8/10/2014

Summary:

One of the reasons conquerors win every battle is because they are fearless. As a result, they are able to perform great exploits. On the other hand, people who walk in fear are slaves and are powerless against satan. Fear is a spirit that must be confronted, resisted and conquered.

Conquer – to overcome, to defeat, to triumph over, to beat, overpower.

  7. Fear in some people causes procrastination because they have a fear of making the wrong decision or making a wrong choice, so they put it off.
  8. You were not given the spirit of fear. (2 Timothy 1:6-7, KJV)
  9. You were given the gift of love, which casts out all fear. (1 John 4:18, KJV)

  1. Immediately after they sinned, Adam and Eve became fearful.

1)The devil used fear to rob Adam and Eve of God’s plan their lives.

  1. The root of all fear is in the belief that God's Word won't come to pass or that it won’t work for YOU.
  2. Many people don't believe that God will supply their needs (Philippians 4:19, KJV), or that by His stripes they are healed. (1 Peter 2:24, KJV)

1)Wicked comes from the word wicker, which means twisted.

2)Wicked doesn’t necessarily mean evil, it means that a person’s thinking may be twisted.

3)If there are areas in your life where your thinking is not in line with God’s Word, could it be possible that your thinking is “twisted” in that area.

  1. Fear, if not dealt with, can rearrange and change things in your life, just like faith.
  2. In addition, fear in one area of life, can spread to another.
  3. If left unchecked, fear will begin to take over every area of your life.
  4. Refuse to tolerate any form of fear.
  5. Other forms of fear include: phobias, worry, doubt, insecurity, etc.

1)A phobia is an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation.

a)As I researched and studied this subject, I found a listing of different types of phobias from A – Z on the internet.

  1. The devil will always try to inflict fear upon us.
  1. You short-circuit the power of God in your life when you serve God with fear [as in being afraid of, not reverential fear or a deep respect].
  2. Faith and fear operate by the same principles and are both spiritual connectors.
  3. Fear is the reciprocal of faith.

1)Faith comes by hearing God's Word. (Romans 10:17)

2)Fear comes by hearing and having faith in the words of the devil.

a)The opposite of fear is faith, and Hebrews 11:6 says, "…without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is…"

b)The devil knows that you must have faith to believe that God's promises will come to pass.

c)If he can get you to doubt God's Word, he will accomplish his goal of taking you out of the will of God, thereby keeping you from receiving the promises.

  1. Do not be deceived into believing that fear is a good motivator.

  2. Therefore, submit to God. Moreover, take a stand against the adversary, and he will flee from you. (CJB)
  3. You must confront and resist fear the same way you confront and resist the devil.
  4. To confront means to deal with in a direct and forceful way.
  5. To resist means to stand firm against; to withstand the force or effect of.
  6. The weapons that you use to defeat the spirit of fear are:

1)Faith in God

2)Faith in God’s Word

3)Faith in the Name of Jesus

4)Faith in the Blood of Jesus

  1. Resisting fear begins first by submitting yourself to God and His authority [the Word].
  2. When Jesus dealt with evil spirits, He rebuked them and cast them out.
  3. You will need to do the same thing with the spirit of fear, rebuke it and cast it out!
  4. One of the definitions of flee is to run away in terror, therefore when you begin to rebuke demons and devils in the Name of Jesus, theyrun away from you in terror.
  5. Until you get a revelation that you have authority and powerover demons, devils and the devil himself, fear will continually be a challenge to you. (Luke 10:19, AMP)
