Fundamental Theory of Pulse taking, it's para-meters, diagnostic skills and hands-on training will be covered. Tongue Diagnosis Theory will include the basis of color, shape, location, coating and movement of the tongue for TCM diagnosis.

This class is designed to teach individuals how Chinese herbs work, the difference between "superior" and "inferior" herbs, formula-making theory, basic Chinese Medicine Theory as well as covering some commonly used herbs.

OCT. 16: Chinese Herbs to Maintain and

Regain Health

Learn many herbs used by the Chinese for centuries to balance the body. Specific organ disharmonies and herbal tonics will be discussed as well as preventative health teas for season changes.

OCT. 23: Chinese Herbs to Calm the Spirit

For hundreds of years the Chinese have understood that you cannot separate the "Spirit or Shen" from the body. When disharmonies of the spirit happen, then physical signs and symptoms are exhibited. Anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia or even the inability to focus can be symptoms of a "heart" disturbance. This class will cover basic theory as well as herbs and formulas often used in Chinese medicine to help with these disharmonies of the heart.

This series can be used as an introduction to Chinese Herbal Medicine. The cost of this course will be deducted from the year long Chinese Herbology course to start March 2002.

Sandra leads groups through the ancient art of Qigong to provide tone and balance while removing energy blocks. Experience the flow of chi, your life force, firsthand and feel the healing energy in your body. Over the three weeks we will cover several Qigong forms and concentrate on breath work and moving in concert with chi. This class can make a profound difference in your experience of well-being.

Auricular Therapy

(Ear Acupressure) w/Arthur Shattuck

Saturday/Sunday, OCTOBER 13th & 14th

This will be the second time this subject has been offered at CIHS. This weekend offers diagnostics, treatment protocols, the traditional ear map as well as the maps of research neurobiologist, Terri Olesen. Point location is the key to good auriculotherapy. New location techniques and the use of electric and laser ear stimulators will be demonstrated and discussed. This seminar is for the student new to this form of therapy as well as students who have already been using the material.

Many drug and alcohol detox specialists learn this technique with successful results for clients addicted to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. Ear seeds, magnets, gold and silver balls as well as tools for utilizing these treatments will be made available for sale.

Fri., OCT. 26: Himalayan Meditation w/Sandra Diamond

This workshop will afford the opportunity to become acquainted with ritual and meditation techniques from this culture. We will experience sacred singing, Tibetan bowls and other objects. BIOGRAPHIES OF

INSTRUCTORS

MARY ALCO - Mary's extensive training in China on herbs, Tuina (oriental body massage) and QiGong is invaluable to her students and clients. Mary is in private practice utilizing her QiGong system of wellness and appointments are made through the school.

SANDRA DIAMOND - Sandra is the founder and director of Dragonfly, LLC, where she combines energy healing, Tai Chi and QiGong, spiritual journeying and counseling as well as hypnotherapy. She is a graduate of the Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences. She has traveled far and wide to study indigenous cultures and their healing practices. Initiated as a Tamang shaman, on a mountaintop monastery in the Himalayans, Sandra brings an eastern approach into all her work. Currently apprenticing as a Toltec nagual (woman of knowledge), she has raised awareness of our interactions on a moment-by-moment basis and a guide for transformation, extremely powerful in healing. She has attended workshops with shamans from the rainforests of Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, absorbing techniques from those cultures as well. Sandra was the Education Chair for the Greater Hartford Holistic Association. Her corporate clients include Cigna, The Hartford, Limra, CT Women in Healthcare Management and UConn Medical Center.

DEBRA FRANKLIN, LCSW - Debra is a licensed psychotherapist serving adults, children, families and couples in private practice in Newington. She is past president of the Greater Hartford Holistic Health Association (now the Connecticut Holistic Health Association), columnist for holistic health publications and regional lecturer on topics related to healing the "self" in order to find the love and joy missing in one's life. Debra specializes in helping people find the love, joy or peace of mind/body/spirit that may be missing in their lives through a unique synthesis of healing approaches. Building on 14 years of experience, she integrates traditional and non-traditional counseling approaches. Blending her knowledge of the unconscious mind with energy fieldwork; use of chakras, imagery and dreamwork, her goal is to facilitate change as deeply and quickly as possible in mind, body and spirit.

NANETTE GINISE - Nanette is a licensed massage therapist in Connecticut and New York state with a private practice in Greenwich, CT. She integrates acupressure and traditional Chinese medicine in her massage practice as well. Nanette is a Western trained herbalist presently pursuing Chinese herbal knowledge. She also teaches acupressure at the CT Center for Massage Therapy.

TONY(A) LEMOS - Tony(a) holds a Diploma as a Natural Therapy Practitioner, which included certi-fications in Massage Therapy, Holistic Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Nutrition from Raworth College of Natural Medicine in Dorking England. Consequently, Tony(a) has intensely studied herbal medicine with Wise Woman and author Susun Weed and has recently completed a clinical intensive with Margi Flint. Tony(a) sits on the education committee of NAHA (National Assn. for Holistic Aromatherapy) setting the standards in Aromatherapy Education. She has been described as a playful, lively teacher whose classes are always entertaining and full of truths. Tony(a) is the author of "Becoming Whole - an Aromatic Journey to Wholeness" a 12 month aromatherapy homestudy program. Tony(a) teaches classes regularly all over New England and has recently accepted the position as Director of Blazing Star Herbal School in Shelburne Falls, MA.

LINDA MASSELLI, MSW, LCSW - Linda is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker beginning a private practice in Newington and Middletown. She integrates her formal training with a continued study of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yoga, Eastern philosophies and meditative practice, seeking to bring mindfulness and spirituality to her practice. Her extensive research into the ancient mystical practices and beliefs of various cultures has led to a profound awareness of the Goddess in history and the Goddess inherent in all of us.
