Job Title / Rehabilitation Therapist
Reports To / Team Leader – Community Services
Location / Community Clinics
Hours of Work / As per contract

Main Purpose of Role

·  To provide treatment of patients for rehabilitation and exercise prescription under delegation from a healthcare professional

·  To work within scope of practice as outlined in Connect policy for Rehabilitation Therapists to deliver a quality clinical service meeting the clinical and commercial needs of the Community Services contracts

·  To contribute and promote a positive and dynamic image and culture to both internal and external stakeholders. At all times striving to reflect and encourage core value behaviours.

·  To meet all requirements for maintenance of professional development as outlined by regulator CHNC and Society of Sports Therapy

Key Tasks

Clinical

·  To prescribe, teach and monitor individual exercise programmes this includes monitoring, modifying and progressing exercise programmes as appropriate seeking advice when necessary.

·  To use knowledge of medical MSK diagnosis healing times and to identify when expected recovery or outcome of rehabilitation is not being attained in relation to a patient under exercise prescription

·  To identify when expected recovery is not being attained in relation to a patient under exercise prescription and report these to the designate healthcare professional when expected goals are not being met

·  To re-assess, progress and establish exercise care plans inclusive of the use of the following clinical modalities

§  Exercise therapy

§  Massage therapy

§  Strapping/taping skills

§  Hot/cold therapies

§  Electrotherapy- USS

·  Services delivered and Clinical interventions will vary depending on contract/site, patient/clients needs, but may include;

§  Exercise groups /seminars

§  Hydrotherapy

§  Outpatients rehabilitation

§  Other clinical areas as required such as hand therapy departments /units

·  To conduct all clinical treatments and related actions in line with relevant Connect standards and policies and where applicable, contract parameters

·  To undertake control of infection duties relating to equipment/therapy appliance

·  To assist with general departmental and administration duties as required

·  To participate in the personal continuous professional development (CPD) as outlined by Connect policy for Rehabilitation Therapists.

Non Clinical

·  Be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the services of the clinics in which they are placed ensuring services are delivered efficiently and with high levels of patient satisfaction

·  To maintain effective inter-professional communication

·  Utilise IT systems provided to track and record patient interactions, complete and submit service and HR data requirements, and review and respond to internal/external communications

·  To evidence maintaining strong written clinical records and reports to the Physiotherapists, ESP, Medical doctor as required

·  To participate in staff induction and training as required

·  To complete Care Certificate including updates as required as well as Mandatory Training and CPD requirements of Society of Sports Therapy

Personal Profile

The role of a Rehabilitation Therapist is fundamentally about supporting the provision of physiotherapy services in NHS environment for optimal patient care. Rehabilitation Therapist are expected to be positive, constructive and approachable and carry out tasks with fairness and integrity at all times.

The Rehabilitation Therapist will be expected to be well organised, conscientious and capable of working collaboratively with the Physiotherapy Team.

Strong communication skills are vital to the role and the Rehabilitation Therapist must be able to communicate effectively with both patients and colleagues alike using a variety of mediums.

The majority of clinical diaries and patient notes are administered electronically and as such Rehabilitation Therapist are required to have good IT skills and be willing to embrace innovation and technological advances that improve service delivery.
