1All required equipment must be set up, started up, operated, and shut down in accordance with company procedures.

2All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal, product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent and delegated legislation.

3All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite environmental procedures (where these exceed code) for personal, product, and worksite environmental matters, and must meet the obligations required under the Resource Management Act 1991, and subsequent and delegated legislation.

7Stepping the rig does not include the connection and commissioning of ancillary control systems such as electronic and hydraulic.

9Competence in the elements of this unit standard must to be demonstrated on rigswith mast height exceeding 15m and rig including standing rigging weighing more than 100kg.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1

Prepare for installation or removal of yacht spars and rigging.

Performance criteria

1.1Lifting equipment is confirmed as being complete, in working order, and matches the safety requirements of the task, in accordance with job requirements.

1.2Rig is prepared in accordance with job requirements.

Rangemay include – coiling or uncoiling of standing and running rigging, disconnection of non critical rigging, removal of assembled components.

1.3Vessel is prepared in accordance with job requirements.

Rangemay include – being securely tied up to a wharf in the waterand stable, securely supported on land and stable.

1.4Vulnerable systems are protected or removed in accordance with job requirements.

1.5A lifting plan is determined and communicated and coordinatedin accordance with job requirements.

1.6Pre-emptive maintenance is carried out in accordance with job requirements.

Rangemay include– application of anti-seizing compounds, isolation of dissimilar materials.

Element 2

Step rig in vessel.

Performance criteria

2.1Vessel is made ready to receive the mast and rig.

Rangemay include– temporary halyard securement, preparation of shroud ends, chainplates, mast step and collar.

2.2Rig is positioned in accordance with lifting plan.

2.3Standing rigging is connected in accordance with job requirements.

2.4Boom and other spars are installed in accordance with job requirements.

2.5Wiring is connected and tested in accordance with job requirements.

2.6Ancillary items are installed in accordance with job requirements.

2.7Rig is setup in accordance with job requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited – to rake, pre bend, rig tension, chocking.

2.8Installation is waterproofed in accordance with job requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – mast collar sealing.

2.9Running rigging is checked in accordance with job requirements.

Element 3

Remove rig from vessel.

Performance criteria

3.1Rig is secured temporarily in accordance with job requirements.

3.2Vulnerable ancillary items are removed in accordance with job requirements.

3.3Ancillary systems are disconnected in accordance withjob requirements.

3.4Standing rigging tension is released and rigging disconnected and supported in accordance with job requirements.

3.5Running rigging is disconnected and coiled in accordance with job requirements.

3.6Mast waterproofing and chocking systems are released in accordance with job requirements.

3.7Rig is removed from vessel in accordance with job requirements.

Element 4

Commission and test a riginstallation.

Performance criteria

4.1Test sail is coordinated in accordance with job requirements.

Rangemay include– inviting appropriate stakeholders such as rig designer, sailmaker, scheduling according to weather.

4.2Rig is adjusted as required in sailing conditions in accordance with job requirements.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
