Egg Baby Project

CONGRATULATIONS!! You are the parent of a beautiful baby egg(s)!!

The purpose of this project is to provide you with the opportunity to experience some of the responsibilities that are involved in the care of babies and young children.

As in real life, YOU are responsible for the health and well-being of your baby egg(s). You will need to treat it like a real child, which means you cannot leave it around unsupervised. In CANNOT be left in your locker during the day. Under no circumstances should “caring” for your egg baby interfere with your other classes. Your baby is very fragile and failure to care for him/her properly will severely impact your baby’s growth and development as well as your grade.

Important Dates to Remember:

This project begins on Thursday, May 12thand ends on Wednesday, May 18th

Baby Book: due on Friday, May 20th

Egg Check #1: Thursday, May 12th

Egg Check #2: Monday, May 16th

Egg Check #3: Wednesday, May 18th

Project Guidelines:

  • You should have your egg baby with you at all times during the day. The ONLY exception is during P.E. Your egg baby should then be put into your P.E. locker for its “nap” where it is safe.
  • Your egg baby must remain in excellent condition. Make sure your baby is in a carrier that is safe and where the baby can breathe. The egg baby’s face should be clearly visible when in the carrier.
  • If you need an “egg sitter” you will have to fill out an egg sitter voucher to be signed by the sitter as well. You cannot have a sitter during the school day. This is for events in which your baby cannot attend.
  • If your egg baby gets injured or dies you are required to fill out an incident report and/or a death certificate. If it is a death you will be responsible to write a report researching the cost of a funeral and burial for your baby.
  • You will be compiling a baby book documenting and reflecting on your egg baby’s life.
  • Parent/Guardian Notification: You will receive 5 bonus points for your parent/guardian’s signature at the bottom of this page. By signing this form they are indicating that he/she has been notified about this project and is ready to assist you in your “egg care.”
  • Daily Journal: You are required to complete a daily journal of detailed information on what you and your baby egg do each day. These include feedings, diaper changes, television time, etc. Activities should reflect the reality of the time spent with the baby, your feelings and so on. Minimum journal entries of 7 – 10 sentences per day. (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday = 6 journal entries minimum)
  • Birth Certificate: Create a birth certificate for your baby (babies if twins). This is to be included in your baby book.
  • Written Reflection: You are required to write a reflection about your time as a parent. The title of your paper should be “My Experiences with My Egg Baby or Babies.” This paper should reflect on changes you experienced having the responsibility of a child, how your life changed, how you felt about this experience, etc. This should be a minimum of 15 sentences.
  • Remember these are “babies.” They are very young and can never be left unattended.
  • Extra Credit: Additional photos, souvenirs, anything pertaining to the baby’s life will earn you some extra credit points. (Be Creative!)

Baby Book Required Content: Organize the baby book in the following order.

Cover Page -> Birth Certificate -> Family Photo -> Family History -> Daily Journals -> Babysitting vouchers (if needed or used) -> Incident Form(s) -> Death Certificate ->Written Reflection -> Any additional items.

***I have read this handout and understand that my teen needs to have his/her “egg baby” ready to begin life on Thursday, May 12, 2016. (All eggs should be hard boiled)
