Duties and Responsibilities of a

COMPASS Guide

Thank you for your interest in serving as a COMPASS Guide for Season II of 2017. Guides are selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership skills and good behavior. Guides serve as role models and mentors to the younger students enrolled in the Cotillion program.

As aGuide, it is very important that others perceive you as an instructor and not another student. To do this, you will need to be confident about the social skills and dancing you will be teaching. There will be training meetings throughout the year to teach new dance steps and skills to help you prepare.

Guides are needed to arrive early to classes to help decorate and set-up the room and equipment. During the classes, Guides will mentor the youth and help with music, dance steps, refreshments and clean-up.

Term and Time Commitment of a COMPASS Guide:

The Cotillion Season consists of six classes and a final formal event. Guides are expected to commit to the entire season. A calendar of events will be given at the beginning of the season. It is the responsibility of the Guides to post these dates in a prominent place and make arrangements to clear your calendar in order to be present at all events. If you are unable to attend an event, please call Mrs. Hodson at 254.319.8910or Mrs. Smith at 254.681.7557 as soon as you are aware of a conflict.

Dress Code for COMPASS Guides:

Guides should serve as role models in all areas, especially dress code. For classes, gentlemen should wear black pants, white dress shirt, dark tie, dress shoes and dark socks.

Female Guides should wear a white blouse and black skirt (appropriate length) and shoes suitable for dancing. For special classes, balls and themed dance, the dress code will be altered to fit the occasion. However, blue jeans and tennis shoes are not acceptable at COMPASS Cotillion events.

It is an honor to be chosen as a Guide. The younger students will respect you and look up to you. But remember: With honor comes responsibility. You will earn community service/volunteer hours for your time and you will be rewarded with the knowledge that you have helped others learn the social skills that will last them for a lifetime.

Sincerely,
