Lindenwood University offers individuals the opportunity to earn graduate credit through the participation in professional conferences and the completion of assignments listed on a Conference Syllabus. To earn any credit, all assignments indicated on this syllabus must be completed.

Assignments / Hours
1. (Implementation and Assessment)
Design a classroom counseling or small group intervention based on Solution-Focused strategies. Use the MO DESEunit plan and individual lesson plans for each session. The templates for both are attached at the end of this document. Please type directly onto the documents provided. / 6
2. Attend a minimum of 6 clock hours of sessions. Please attach the information to the end of your assignments with a total number of direct hours listed. / 6 direct hours of conference attendance /
3. (Active Reflective Practice)
Describe in 1 ½ to 2 pages action items you will be addressing with your counseling team, school community and/or administration upon return. How does this unit fit within your school’s improvement plan? Provide at least two specific examples, and use the SMART Goal template to outline your plan. / 6 /

To turn in assignments, please type directly on the templates provided at the end of the document. Please save your assignment in one Word file as “MOTakeTen[your last name, first initial]”

Description of Assignment 1:

Create a unit for classroom counseling. A unit should include 2-3 lesson plans.

  • Include a SMART goal (type directly into the template at the end of this document).
  • Include a unit plan.
  • Include a minimum of 2-3 classroom sessions.
  • Align with MO Counseling Standards, available at:

Description of Assignment 2:

Attend a minimum of 6 hours/sessions during the conference. Indicate the session title on the Conference Log Sheet, sign in the box on the right of each session entry, total and submit with all assignment(s) on syllabus.

Description of Assignment 3:

Identify some action items you will be addressing when you return to school. Please frame these in terms of a SMART Goal. After listing these items, reflect on which stakeholders need to be involved and the rationale behind this. Finally, describe the agenda of the meeting and/or reflect on how the meeting went (if you were able to already have the meeting prior to turning in this assignment).

THE GRADE PLAN

To earn a grade of “A”: Fully participate in conference activities, plan for the implementation of a conference activity in your work setting, and submit the minimum documentation required on the syllabus in a timely manner. In addition, submit one of the following:

  • Include all elements listed under description one and other elements relevant to your school found in the MO DESE lesson plan template. Create 3 lesson plans with clear and appropriate smart goals.
  • Attend a minimum of 6 hours during the conference
  • A thoroughly developed action plan that fits within your current school improvement plan including at least two items you are bringing back to your school community.

To earn a grade of “B”: Fully participate in conference activities and submit the minimum documentation required on the Syllabus in a timely manner. Complete both papers with all criteria missing 1-2 elements as described in the assignment.

To earn a grade of “C”: Less than full participation in conference activities, and/or incomplete assignments that do not meet the standards of “A” or “B”.

Failure to meet the requirement of an “A”, “B”, or “C” will result in failure of the class.

The assignments must be uploaded to canvas by Friday, March 23, 2018for credit to be earned.
