Title: Group Health Insurance Purchases

The following categories of individuals may purchase health insurance (exclusive of any additional coverages) through the group health insurance plan in effect through Conewago Valley School District, subject to the conditions and limitations mentioned for each category. In all cases, only a single policy may be purchased and this must be purchased by and include coverage of the individual referred to within the categories; (A. Retired employee or surviving spouse; B. Current Board member or surviving spouse; C. Former Board member or surviving spouse; D. Surviving spouse of deceased employee). The decision to purchase such insurance must be communicated to the District office within 90 days of a retirement from the District or a death which implements this policy. At no time may additional dependents be added to the insurance coverage for any category.
A. Retired Employees - A retired employee who has accumulated 10 years of service in the Conewago Valley School District prior to retiring from service in the District may purchase for himself/herself individual, husband-wife, or family coverage health insurance. Coverage under this single policy could be for self, spouse, and any dependents who were insured at the time of retirement. No additional dependents may be added. In the event of death of the insured retiree, the surviving spouse may elect to continue to purchase health insurance for self and any dependents insured on the deceased retiree's policy purchased through the District. No additional dependents may be added. At such time that comparable group health insurance becomes available through any means other than the District (i.e. employment, newly acquired dependents, etc.) the option to continue purchase of insurance through the District no longer exists. The former employee/surviving spouse is required to contact the District at the time such insurance becomes available.
B Current Board Members - Current Board members may purchase individual, husband-wife, or family coverage health insurance while serving on the Board. In the event of death of the insured Board member, the surviving spouse, may elect to continue to purchase health insurance for self and any dependents insured on the deceased Board member's policy purchased through the District. No additional dependents may be added. At such time that comparable group health insurance coverage becomes available through any means other than the District (i.e. employment, newly acquired dependents, etc.) the option to continue purchase of insurance through the District no longer exists. C. Former Board Members - A Board member who ceases to serve on the Board but who has accumulated 10 years of service on the Board prior to leaving the Board may purchase individual, husband-wife, or family coverage health insurance for self, spouse, and any dependents who were insured through the District health plan at the time the Board member's service ceased. No additional dependents may be added. In the event of death of the insured, the surviving spouse may elect to continue to purchase health insurance through the District for self and any dependents insured on the deceased member's policy purchased through the District. No additional dependents may be added. At such time that comparable group health insurance becomes available through any means other than the District (i.e. employment, newly acquired dependents, etc.) the option to continue purchase of insurance through the District no longer exists. The Board member/surviving spouse is required to contact the District at the time such insurance becomes available.
D. Surviving Spouse of Deceased Employee - The surviving spouse of a District employee who was employed by the District at the time of death may elect to continue to purchase health insurance coverage through the District for self and any dependents who were insured through the District at the time of the insured's death. No additional dependents may be added. At such time that comparable group health insurance coverage becomes available through any means other than the District (i.e. employment, newly acquired dependents, etc.) the option to continue purchase of insurance through the District no longer exists.
