4.6 Admissions policy

Aim

Wakoos Nursery aims to make the setting accessible to the community through open, fair and clearly communicated policies and procedures.

Policy

  • Our setting is widely advertised across the community.
  • Information about our setting is available on request in more than one language, braille or in spoken form. We can provide an interpreter on request; this will be organised in conjunction with the support from West Sussex County Council
  • Places are allocated on a first come first served basis with a place being secured once a deposit is paid.
  • We may keep a place vacant to accommodate an emergency admission this could be used for a short term placement under the discretion of the Manager.
  • It is the parents or agencies responsibility involved with the child to inform the nursery in writing at least 6 months before leaving; of any situation where the child’s school placement will be deferred as we will not keep places in the nursery open for children who are due to go to school in September.
  • We have limited places available on a term time only basis - once these places are filled parents/carers can put their child on a waiting list for a term time only placement.
  • All parents/carers for new admissions need to have completed a registration form and pass proof of ID to the office for processing and paid the relevant deposit where necessary.
  • Once a booked place is allocated if your child is off sick you will need to call the office to inform them of the absence, you will be charged for the session as the place is booked.
  • 15 hours free entitlement is available term time only however spaces are limited.
  • From September 2017 we will offer 22 hours free entitlement all year round (extended entitlement). Additional paid hours can be booked on a term time only or all year round basis (dependent on availability).NB : If you book your child in for 22 hours free entitlement all year round and are deemed to be not entitled to the funding you will be liable for the fees.
  • We will require 4 week’s notice if you would like to increase, decrease, change or cancel any of your child’s sessions.
  • In the unlikely event that the building for example is flooded you would receive a full refund for the session booked on that day.
  • Once a child has completed the registration forms a home visit will be arranged, this will be followed by settling in visits to the setting by your child. You will be required to accompany your child to these visits, you will not be charged for these settling in sessions.
  • We follow the Early Years Foundations Stage Curriculum parents can access the parent’s guide to this please request a copy of this from the office.
  • We encourage parents to share their child’s learning at home, by encouraging them to review with their child - their child’s learning journal on parentzone, asking parents to complete and upload home observations, and encouraging parent participation in the setting.
  • We have a policy and procedure folder located in the hallway which provides our up to date policies and procedures for the setting and our after school clubs.
  • We will give priority to families with siblings in the nursery, to families who wish to join with multiple siblings, and to families who’s child/children wish to join on a full time basis. Sibling discount is offered to the eldest child with a discount of 10%.
  • For children staying over lunch we provide a hot lunch, we do not have the facilities to accommodate packed lunches in the setting due to lack of storage facilities. We can accommodate children with special dietary needs – this will be documented at time of registration.
  • If a child is collected 10 minutes late we will charge a £10 late collection fee.
  • Each child at the setting will be allocated a key worker to work with your child and complete a learning journal for your child.
  • We have a secure collection policy and procedures for the collection of your children
  • We treat everyone equally regardless of gender, special educational needs, disabilities, background, religion, ethnicity or how well they can speak English.
  • We have a parents notice board where the most recent amended policy is displayed for parents comments.
  • Parents/carers are encouraged to join the Committee, a board of voluntary trustees who direct Wakoos Centre4Children and help to develop the setting. This gives parents/carers the opportunity to be actively involved in the strategic decision making process.
