10.021ACOUSTICDOPPLERCURRENTPROFILER

Purpose

The AcousticDopplerCurrentProfiler (ADCP)is to be used for automateddischarge measurementsfromasmallboaton riversandcanals, normally deployed on its own floating platform(trimaran) which can be towed by boat, from a cableway, from a bridge, from opposite banks or can possibly be remote controlled. The ADCP may also be mounted on a moving boat.Typicalapplicationsareverificationof velocity-areadata,dischargemeasurements atimportantlocationsanddischarge measurementsonlarge rivers. TheADCP willbedeployed ina roving mode,being transportedfromtheonesiteofinteresttotheother.The system will normally be deployed on its own trimaran. The trimaran is included in the delivery. Should flow conditions require, the ADCP should also be mounted on a moving boat. The boat is not included in the delivery.

The discharge measuring system should be deployed at the nominated sites for at least 4 months in a year.

•TheADCPshallbeeasytooperateandmaintain.

•AllmaterialsontheADCPexteriorshallbenon-corrosive.

•TheADCPshallbesmall,lightandeasytotransport.

•Thesensor-headshallbesturdyandimpactresistant.

•If mounted on a boat, theADCPshallbeinstalledinthesurveyboatinsuchawaythatnoairwillbesucked underneaththetransducersoftheprofiler.

•TheADCPshallbeeasytoinstallanddeployfromasmallboat, should flow conditions require this option.Forthispurpose, matchingriggingmaterialshouldbepartofthedelivery.

•Ifmounted on a boat, theX-directionoftheADCPshallbeinparallelwiththelongitudinalaxisoftheboat.

•The ADCP shall utilize broadband signal processing to improve time, space and velocity resolution and accuracy in shallow water.

•The ADCPshall have smalldead zonesat the surfaceand thebottom asitwillbeused in veryshallowanddeeperwater.

•AportablePC,meetingtherequirementsofthecurrentprofileristocontroltheADCP,to monitorthedataacquisition process,tostorethecollecteddataandtovisualisecollected datafiles.

•TheADCPshallsupportaccurateBottomTracking.

•TheADCPshallsupportuseofDGPS,tobeusedduringmovingbedconditions,under normalconditionstheextraDGPSwillnotbeused.

•The ADCP shall have an acoustic frequency and operating modes suitable for robust bottom tracking in the presence of resuspended material near river bed and for deeper profiling in high sediment concentrations as well as a fast sampling mode.

•ADGPSsystemshallbepart ofthedeliveryandincluded inthebidprice.TheDGPSshallmeetthefollowing requirements.

Error detection, frequency 900 MHz minimum, power 100 mW minimum, line of sight range at least 7 km. 6. DeploymentThe ADCP system will normally be deployed on its own bespoke trimaran. The trimaran should have unbreakable polyethylene hulls with a minimum 3 years warranty, a proven stable design, a waterproof electronics compartments and stainless steel fasteners and safety lines. Boat hardware and wiring modifications for the DGPS shall be included. A protective cover and hardcase carrier for the trimaran is part of delivery.
