Concerned Citizens For A BetterHerkimerCounty Platform For Change!
OFFERING A NEW DIRECTIONFORHERKIMERCOUNTY
Transparency in our government
- More Open Government & Accountability.
- Include citizens in our government process. Value their input and seek greater opportunities to involve them in their governmental decision making.
- Stop all closed door party caucuses.
- Change the public comment period to a public discussion period.
Charter Reform
- Look into the possibility of reducing the countyLegislature from 17 members to 11 for thousands in annual savings.
- Have the CountyAdministratorbe an elected position forresponsiveness to the PEOPLE rather than the majority.
- STOP Lifetime Health Benefits forthe Legislators.
Sound Economic Practices
- Develop a plan and have a vision for our future. A 5, 10, 15 year plan of goals we can aspire to.
- Scrutinize the county budget for saving opportunities, No support for property tax increases.
- Foster economic growth and job creation throughout our county. Taxpayer funded financial incentives must promote jobs with living wages. Insure tax incentives make sense and produce results that add to the county’s tax base.
- Farming is a major contributor to our local economy. We must support our agricultural industry in voice and action. Grants must be sought to help farmers sustain the family farm.
- Look at alternate, creative solutions and have respect forthe taxpayers’ economic plight, ie;.The Jail, Country Manor, Public Health, The IDA, etc.
- STOP the ¼% Sales tax reserve for the jail and return it to our citizens and our economy. Review our ability to return the 1-% sales tax revenue to towns and villages.
- Work for greater energy independence; more effective uses of our natural resources (hydroelectric and wind power). Support high-speed rail.
- Support the growth of our local arts and diverse culture to promote our tourism industry.
