COMPUTER APPLICATIONS COURSE SYLLABUS

WELCOME & COURSE DESCRIPTION

Welcome to Computer Applications! The goal of this course is to provide an understanding and application of social, ethical, and human issues related to technology. The course will also provide an introduction to computer technology, decision-making, productivity, communications, and problem-solving skills. Areas of instruction include computer applications and integration of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software as well as use of emerging technologies.

In this course, high school students can acquire skills required to create, edit, and publish industry appropriate documents. Areas of study will also include oral and written communications and information research for reporting purposes. Competencies for the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of both the core employability skills standards and technical skill standards.

7.  Excel 2007: Enter, save, load, format, and print documents and graphs – improve math skills

9.  PowerPoint 2007: Research & create presentations using masters, graphics, sound/music clips and graphs

10.  Career orientation and exploration of computer technology jobs through the Internet.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES

GRADING PROCEDURES:

Daily Grades (50%): In-class assignments

Test Grades (30%): Written concepts and production tests

Spelling Grade (10%): Weekly spelling homework and spelling tests

Timed Writing Grade (10%): Weekly timed writing grades

FINAL GRADE: Each 6-weeks grading period will count approximately 28% of the final grade, and the final exam will count 15% of the final grade. The three 6-weeks grading periods and the final exam determine the grade for the term.
