Expanded Holiday and Christmas time family venue to open Friday,November 24th

The Memphis Botanic Garden (MBG)today announced the upcoming opening of its dramatically expanded Holiday time attractionHoliday Wonders at the Garden (HWATG). HWATGopens the Friday night after Thanksgiving and runs (select nights) through December 30th featuring three distinct areas, eachwith a differenttheme but all catering to families, couples and groups.

Snowy Nights is our outdoor, interactive, family oriented venue. It is a continuation of the popular Snowy Nights in My Big Backyard, which ran for many years at MBG.

Sculptures Bright will light up our growing Sculpture Gardenin interesting and evocative ways. Our Sculpture Garden featuresdiverse art from many well-known, local artists.Adjacent to Sculptures Brightand located in our Rose Garden area will be theIkea Outdoor Lounge featuring snacks, hot chocolate, adult beverages and fire tables for warming.

Trees Alight is sure to become a community favorite and features the City of Memphis Christmas Tree as well as a spectacular nightly LED light show; it will be located in our Conifer Garden.

Special Note:A limited version of the Trees Alight light show will be visible without charge, nightly (including nights when the Garden is closed) to traffic driving on Cherry Road between Park Southern.

Holiday Wonders at the Garden opens on Friday, November 24th at 5:30 p.m. withspecial guests (t.b.a.) on siteto ‘flip the switch’ at 6:15 p.m. (to accommodate live, local newscasts) illuminating both the City of Memphis Christmas Tree and the broader Trees Alight venue for the very first time.

Mike Allen, Executive Director at the Memphis Botanic Garden commented, “Building upon years of success with our Snowy Nights in My Big Backyard event, and now covering the entire northwest corner of our Garden, we offereasy access, great parking, a very reasonable cost and a central city location.Holiday Wonders at the Garden offers something for everyone - families, couples of all ages, and groups during this festive time of year. Additionally, guests attending holiday parties, wedding receptions and other events at MBG during this time period will get the benefit of enjoying this new Holiday treasure while on our premises”, said Allen.

A series of special evenings are scheduledthroughout the season including:

  • Community Night with free admission to the first 1,000 guests on Monday, December 11th
  • Family Thursday with reduced admission ($3.00) for all children over the age of 2 on Thursday, December 14th (only) when a family brings an unwrapped gift for Porter-Leath.
  • Date Night with extended hours (until 10:00 p.m.) on Saturday, December 16th
  • Sunday with our Sculptures on Sunday evening, December 17th
  • On My Last Nerve Night* on Tuesday, December 26th
  • * For when your in-laws, kids and other guests are crawling up your last nerve and you need to find something to do that is out-of-the-house!

And we are introducing Winter Wonderland Engagements at the Garden;four marriageproposaloptionsto help guys “pop the question”. We’ll help the fella’s plan their night; guide them to a romantic, semi-private area, and work to sneak their family, friends and even a photographer in to share in this special moment! Advance purchase tickets go on sale today ($8.00 for Garden Members and $10.00 for non-members); they are both discounted and strongly encouraged! This year we are offering reserved ticket times with timed entry to cut down on waiting and lines.
