Lesson 1:
Lesson 1 Objective: Using technology, students will research composers of the Classical period. Students will be able to distinguish between the composers, record important information and be able to identify a song from each composer.
Students will divide into groups of five and use the website to study the list of composers.
1. Wolfgang Mozart (Classical)
2. Ludwig van Beethoven (Classical)
3. Joseph Haydn (Classical)
4. Classical composer of the group’s choice
Students will research and take notes on each composer. In each group, there will be 2 computer users, 2 recorders of information, and 1 organizer. The two computer users will be responsible for navigating the website. The two recorders will take turns writing information and taking notes and the organizer will ensure each composer has been studied and use time management skills to keep the group moving along.
On the website, students will read about each composer, record the most important information and listen to an excerpt of his music online. This will create a connection between the composer and student. Students should record who their “favorite” was among the composers studied.
The teacher will assess the students in the group by walking around and asking questions to each group about each composer and song that was played. Students should be able to identify the song and composer.
Students will summarize the information learned about the Classical period. Students will record themselves on video discuss and presenting new information regarding one of the composers.
