Junior Statesman Summer School

A challenging academic program for students who have a passion for government and politics—

program locations include Yale, Georgetown, Princeton and Stanford

Lott Leadership Institute at the University of Mississippi

A virtually cost-free (all accepted students receive scholarships) program for rising seniors to

develop leadership skills and prepare students for college—the last week includes a trip to

Washington, DC.

MIT Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES) program

A challenging 6 week summer program that prepares promising rising seniors for careers in

engineering and science—if selected, all educational, housing, meals and activity costs are covered

(transportation to and from MIT is not covered)

Morehouse College Coca-Cola Pre-College Leadership Program

For male students completing their sophomore or junior year of high school or male students who

have completed their senior year of high school and have applied to Morehouse for Fall 2009—

focuses on personal and interpersonal leadership skills

NASA National Space Club Scholars Program

A 6-week summer internship at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center—for students who will be 16

years old and have completed the 10th grade by June 2009, have demonstrated high academic

success, and have an interest in space science or engineering as a career

National Youth Science Camp

A cost-free program held in West Virginia that includes educational and recreational activities for

students interested in science—two students are selected to represent each state

North Carolina Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy

A week-long program that focuses on airplanes and flying, the theory of flight and aviation history,

Penn State Summer Study

Colorado at Boulder, University of Vermont and The Sorbonne in Paris. Sessions range from 2-6

weeks and offer college courses, PSAT/ACT prep, weekend trips, and/or community service

Technological Advances in Reproductive Biology Summer Science Enrichment Program

Held on campus of Wingate University—students will study the science behind reproductive

technologies by looking at basic reproductive physiology and the technological applications from a

The Shelton Challenge at NCSU/UNCC

A six day residential experience (offered at both NCSU and UNCC) to help students expand their

knowledge and skills of what it takes to be a leader—activities include team building activities, low

and high ropes courses, service projects, and fun night activities

For rising seniors—a week-long program that includes academic classes, military training, physical

fitness training and intramural athletics to give participants the opportunity to experience cadet

life

UNC-Charlotte SAT Preparation program

Lower cost than many other SAT preparation programs—week-long sessions are offered from

February to October 2009 (including four sessions in July)
